This shows how the cable connects. The cable hole is only on the 70 and up cars. 69 GP too IIRC

Man, that spot would be a nightmare to get to on a 68. I'll look tonight but it seems like a remember an indentation in the outside of the cowl in that region that I was wondering about not too long ago. I was thinking it was for another windshield support bracket but I could only locate two in my parts.

Maybe they were ahead of the game on my late production 68 and the indentation is there.

My local guy supplied me windshields for my '55 Chevy, 57 Chevy truck and my '83 El Camino for installing myself. Perfect glass, great prices and no shipping.
The guy was great as he told me that he would do a thorough inspection on them and if any defects (which he sees once in a while) he would send back and get another one in before calling me.
He couldn't get me a windshield for me for my '69 GTO convertible. Not just out of stock but not even a listing for it. So I got it from Auto City and had it in about 4 days.

If you plan on using the radio, I would not even hook up the windshield ant. I would still go with the external one you had already planned on. It has been years since I was in a car with one but I recall them not working all that well. Unless of course you dont like the look of the external job.

Same memories I have of the early windshield antennas. Probably a reason most modern cars went back to conventional antennas. I don't think I even have a place to put the wires, probably going to end up cutting them off.

No attached cable or wires that I can recall Data. I replaced the cable on my ElCo without removing the windshield.

So it's just some kind of contact patch on the base of the windshield ?

I saw this photo of one.

I really can't recall. It's been years since I replaced the cable and I've sold the car since then.

That is correct Dataway, the lead off the bottom of the window plugs into a jack in the tub area of the cowell (at least on the trans am). If I were you and had no plans on using that, I would just nip that lead off at the window and go on business as usual. Not a problem.

My unstoppable streak of bad luck with all parts, orders, backorders, delivery etc. continues.

Windshield arrived in a perfectly intact box, badly broken in two places .. where the side curves start. Looks like it was probably dropped front or back side down and the weight of the glass broke it.

Called Auto City Classics minutes after it arrived ... evidently they are sending out a replacement, pretty much no questions asked, didn't even want pictures.

I was a bit disappointed in the level of tint, appears a few shades lighter than the original. Tint seems to show up in the photo better than in person ... seems almost clear in reality.

That stinks! Was the box full of packing peanuts? Mine had the bubble wrap and then stuffed full. I agree that the tint is a bit light and also the glass was noticeably thinner. But I suppose the options are limited so I just go with the flow. For me my biggest disappointment was not being able to find one without an antennae.

The tinting looks just right to me. They're not supposed to be heavily tinted. I'm sure they're are DOT standards for tint level.
Too bad it arrived broken but glad about Auto City's response.

That sucks. You guys might want to reconsider the "pick it up at the warehouse" option mentioned earlier.
On the tint, l agree that it looks right.

I can live with the tint, but it's definitely lighter as I put an original right next to it for comparison. Although it could very well just be the fact that it is thinner ... so less glass, less tint.

It was wrapped in bubble wrap (lots), had blocks of styrofoam, cardboard holders on the ends, foam around all the edges. Unwrapped it and took a closer look ... appears to have been dropped on the edge as there is a chunk out of the edge ... OR, almost looks like the box stapler could have caught the edge. Shattered much like yours OG. Break corresponds exactly with the position of one of the staples ... no apparent impact damage to the box at all.

I had a bad feeling when in the first day of shipping it had an exception due to unreadable bar code, then a couple of days of extra delays for no apparent reason ... usually the more time something is in the hands of the shipper the more likely it is to be broken.

The icing on the cake ... wife bought this for me ... today a notice comes from Capital One ... someone is trying to make a $10,000 charge on her card, last place she used it ... was to order this glass, the only place she has typed in her number and security code in months. So ... card cancelled, new one on the way.

When it rains it pours ... I have a feeling the next one is going to be broken too. Guessing things will get complicated at that point.

Default windshield

The drive to Syracuse seems like your best option. You are not that far from there. Two Hours away and a perfect windshield.

Yikes Data, sounds like that glass is haunting you. My philosophy, things have got to get better. As long as they are replacing just be patient until you get one that is right or they give up, LOL. Waiting a few more days is still cheaper than driving down the road at this point.

I wonder what Auto City Classics fail rate is on shipping? I would imagine its low.

You would have to think it was low, unless there profit margin on the glass is very high, or they have a great deal on shipping. Strange that they don't put a "fragile" sticker or something on them boxes. Wonder if "special handling" like that increases the shipping price.

Fedex is showing the shipping label has been created, but nothing has shipped yet, original estimate is for Friday delivery. Not sure what they will do if it's broken again ... going to try to be ready at the door this time with my box cutter and scissors and refuse it if it's broken.

With my luck I'd spend the extra $150 and drive to Syracuse and find that it got broken on the way to the warehouse

I haven't read all the post here but did you check the local glass company's, I have no faith in the shippers when it comes to glass or sheetmetal.
