OK that makes more sense, the way it read sounded like just the alum intake saved 100lbs.

If he ports the heads and intake, they`ll be even lighter.

Your motor is going to be similar to mine. I went with Edelbrock D ports. Unported but, my builder did do some clean up on them. Never been to the track but it runs very strong. It's a blast on the street..

There is not 100lbs difference between a pair of Pontiac iron heads vs aluminum heads. Not even close.
Now a big Rat engine with huge heads you might find 100lbs. Pontiac heads are puny in comparison. |

From memory most aluminum heads are about 38 lbs. and iron 63. Wide ports are considerably lighter and make about 10 HP per pound lost when compared to a standard port aluminum head.

Thanks Slowbird. Back around 74-75 I worked full time in an auto repair garage. The "old" mechanic there hand lapped the valves in a couple cast iron heads while I was there. I helped him with one set. That's about the lot of my experience with lapping. With the loss of feeling in my hands and questionable eyesight I wouldn't feel comfortable attempting to lap the valves in a pair of costly aluminum heads. I had planned to take the heads to a shop that specializes in head work to have them checked over before installation.
