Wow! I see that you have all the RAIV goodies already! I think they would be perfect in a '69 Firebird 400 clone! That combo would be 700 - 800 lbs. lighter than the GP alone in race weight, so 0.7 - 0.8 sec. quicker by weight savings.

Hopefully you have the D-port long branch manifolds for the GP. My brother built and dyno'd a '69 428HO engine (4-speed car) and with 10.5 to 1 compression and a Summit 2801 cam made 425 hp and 500 lb-ft torque, so would move a 4100 lb GP down the quarter mile in the mid-13's with ease.

If I recall correctly, he needed to use flat top pistons (or less dish) to get the compression up with the 62 heads since their chambers cc's at 72 after resurfacing.

I took it to the local scrap metal place, I had to rub my eyes and make sure I wasn’t seeing things, 3620 lbs with a little less than a 1/2 of gas. I’m going to reweigh it again at a truck stop.

Wow, that's a lightweight! What options and certainly double check at another scale!

That engine sounds like my neighbor's Steve Johns, he has a black on black 428 four speed 69

My goal is to put the car in the mid to low 13s with 722 heads, LB manifolds, factory aluminum intake, 3.55 gear and a small convertor. One cam I'm thinking about is the crower 60919 470 lift, 231/240 duration at .50.
I thought you were retired and living the good retired life???

I do not think that you will need much cam to run low-mid 13's. You will want as much lift as you can run to take advantage of the round port heads. Not exactly apples to apples, but here is what I used to run in my '70 Grand Prix: 455 +0.030", 4X small chamber heads unported but improved valve job and Ferrea valves, Q-jet, Edelbrock RPM intake, Ultradyne 223/231 .463/.485 110LSA hydraulic flat tappet cam, GTO-style RAIII exhaust manifolds, 2.5" full length, mandrel exhaust with x-pipe, TH400, 13" converter, 3.42 rear. That combo ran consistent 13.00 in 106-degree heat with fuel starvation at the top end. My car is an a/c car, full trim, spare in the trunk, with no lightening done. Times were with 28" MT et-streets.

Yes, that'd be the one. I might have some of the details wrong, but it was impressive...not to mentioned, nestled between the fenders of a downright awesome GP.

Sprocket,

Haven't gotten it to the track yet, but it has significantly more power, especially 3500 rpm and beyond. Will report when I do.
