I have the same car, but with the 400/400. I went to a couple of shops that also couldn't balance wheels due to your issue. But, the one that did, convinced me using his spring loaded style should work. It did. I have no vibrations and it runs smooth at 70 mph also.
I do also like the sport mirrors. Click image for larger version

The cut-down brake rotor adapter is fantastic, you don't need any kind of centering cone with that setup. I don't have a lathe or access to one, but if I knew I was going to do a ton of Rally II's, that'd be the way to go. I'm sure that took a fair amount of time to build and perfect, but it's a really nice setup.

That's pretty. I definitely want to add the sport mirrors after seeing that. I had always intended to but I was worried I'd have to cut up the door and add the reinforcement on the inside for the remote mirror mount, but this summer I took that chrome mirror off to make a new gasket for it and I saw it's already drilled and reinforced for the remote mirror. So that'll definitely happen in the next round.

This is great and very timely information. I just had brand new tires mounted on a set of rally II rims that came with my car. The shop has balanced them twice yet. I still get a nasty vibration out of what feels like all four. They’re closed at the moment, but I’ll have to call them and ask them if they use a cone. My next step was to have the tires removed and take the rims to a repair shop that was going to at least tell me if they were bent. Perhaps this will be a potential solution

Many older or aftermarket wheels (like Honeycombs) are lug-centric, meaning they center on the lug nuts, not the hub bore.

I suppose a bearing hub from a front drum car would do the trick ?

"Hub Plates" mount the wheel assembly using the lug nuts holes.

Coats and Hunter sell these, I would recommend the Hunter Road Force balancer.

I remember a Coats balancer training that noted 50-60% of balance issues are mounting the wheel assembly to the balancer.

The hub plate takes the "cones" out of the picture, those are typically the quick and easy way to mount a wheel to a balancer.

Hope this helps.

And - like other posted, bent rims will be spotted by high tech balancers.

And - match mounting also helps. Hunter Road Force will spot that accurately.

I called local tire stores to find one that could balance off the lugs.

Local Les Schwab was both unfamiliar and uncapable.

Local Firestone said "yes, we have an adapter and it should work with your wheels"! They are on my to-do list.
