Just how strong are the eagle cast cranks, Horse power and torque .

Depends if you get a good one or not.

I've never bought an aftermarket cast crank, I've always bought forged. The most recent eagle forged crank I bought just a couple months go was super nice. All clearances were spot on, nice finish, no problems.

I did have to wait 3 months for it to show up however.

If you go by what Eagle claims, Max HP for their cast cranks is 500HP on a small block, and 700HP on a big block. I don’t consider Pontiac’s small block or big blocks, they are someplace in the middle of that. Just my opinion, but I think the max on an Eagle cast crank in a Pontiac is 600HP. At that point you better hope you have a good one like Paul said. When trying to avoid breaking something it is usually sketchy being at the max of any rating. Much over 500 HP and the crank really needs to be forged instead of offshore cast.

With forged 4340s being fair priced yet, there is not much reason to push that HP limit with a cheap off shore cast crank. A well prepped cut down factory N crank is cast from much better alloys, and has often proven capable of closer to 800HP. But it is still a cast crank, fatigue life will catch up with it eventually. A good 4340 forged crank should be capable of over 1000 HP or what ever the block is good for.

If a crank is extra shinny it likely is an Eagle and has their ESP armor coating.

That doesn't sound easy to me.

I was thinking about this same topic myself. I have a nice 428 crank I would like to put in a 400. I have looked for a 428 block for years but never found one. The aftermarket crank that Buttler sells is around $1200.

Just use a 455 block, drop in. Bigger bore, everything is better.
