That looks more like "paint repair" at the end of the final line. I don't imagine they ran one high content car immediately after another because of work load balance requirements on the regular line.

Although: that could be how they painted each special paint car (on the repair line).

When we did the 2011 Volt the roof and decklid were painted black and each car made a second pass through the paint shop just for that two tone operation.

We took that out in 2012 and saved some money, both time and material (and some aggravation).

Weird though that the car behind it is masked off the same way. Thas a really surprising picture even if it is touch up

I forget the actual name of that roofline but it was the standard for all but the Sport version. The sport version was more of a fastback style that didn't have the over hang like the base sedan models. 61 was the only year it came like that. Didn't Pontiac have a similar version in 61 called the bat wing? or something like that.

Pontiac folks called it "batwing". At least I heard that back in the day vs bubble top.

The nickname was the batwing, but the correct term is 2dr. sports sedan.

Heres a couple I ran across yesterday on the internet. The tan GTO is in Walterboro, SC. I don't know the name of the strip. The blue GTO is at the now former Blaney Drag Strip in Elgin, SC. That land is now a trailer park with Street names like Gartlis Dr., Liberman Way, Ivo Circle and Platt Dr. I know you will recognize these names. They all raced there back in the day.

Here's a photo of a 1964 LeMans coming off the Fremont CA assembly plant line, and it too had a painted beige/gold top.

Absolutely.

That's the end of line "roll test". While the vehicle is on the rolls the driver is running it though the gears, checking all the lights, wipers, washers, locks, windows, radio, etc...in about 45 seconds.

The electrical unit hanging from the ceiling (near the driver door) is the controller for the rolls.

The piece of paper on the dash is the final line inspection ticket.

1964 RED F-85 or cutlass 4 dr.- you can tell it's a 4 dr. because it has a concave backlight "C" pillar
1964 Blue Buick special or Skylark
1964 Red/White Tempest wagon
1964 L blue or silver Chevelle
1964 Tempest wagon beige
