Amen! Why I'm looking hard for one that is not here for my Impala then the GTO project.

Had you thought about having it media blasted vs just sanding it?

Everyone said I was crazy for driving 8 hours but this guy has a sterling reputation and after I talked to him on the phone several times and saw his work and turn around time I knew this was it

Although not ideal, having to drive 8 hours to find a good shop for body work or paint work is totally reasonable given how difficult it is to find good people. You have to find the elusive combination of someone who is highly skilled and experienced, but who also is a good communicator and has transparent (and routine) billing practices. It's a rare combination of qualities in this trade.

It will be fun watching the progress here. Looking forward to future updates!

I was told that the DMV was backed up for months and to apply soon, well Hagerty said once I get the car back and get the motor and trans in it then I can’t have the spare parts rider on my policy cause it’s not spare parts anymore it’s on the car. I want to be able to move it around in my neighborhood so I applied for my tag and it only took 5 weeks. When I get the car back I will convert from a restoration policy to a regular one. Already got the tag. Property taxes on it were 11.35 BAHAHA

I cannot speak for GA or AL or NC, but I know they are similar from what family membes tell me. In SC your tags (license plates) run about $36 for two years by the state. Counties can (and do) apply a property tax on the vehicle based on its value. For this past year the property taxes on my 1968 Pontiac GTO were $18.79. My county also applies a road repair tax of $25 annually on each vehicle. In comparison my wife's 2018 Ford Escape was taxed in 2020 $338.13, road repair tax $25 and tag $36 for a total of $399.13. The property tax declines each year as the vehicle depreciates. There is also a cap on the property tax so your $100,000 diesel crew cab won't exceed a certain amount. The county road tax pays for county and municipal roads/streets (repair/repaving) while the state gas tax covers state and federal roads. Hope this helps.

Sales tax on vehicles in SC is capped at 300 bucks too. That’s why everyone comes here to buy cars but if you live here you have to pay property tax every year. No big deal, 11 bucks for the car and 35 dollars for plain tag. My wife’s 2019 Equinox is about 200 property tax but it will drop every year till it’s 11 bucks too which is minimum in Oconee County.

Total misinformation...

You pay sales tax on cars in the state and county you REGISTER them, not where you BUY them.

You can't leave the dealership with a newly purchased vehicle without having the dealer apply for registration in the state and county you reside in.

I can only speak for Mississippi. In MS, the dealer does not apply for the registration and tag for you. You take the sales paperwork to your county courthouse and pay the property taxes and registration fees at the Tax Collectors' office and they issue your tags and registration.

Happily, for any vehicle over 25 years of age, you pay minimal sales and property tax at initial purchase. Even more happily, this tag and registration (antique tag) is good for your total time of ownership! My total taxes and fees for a vehicle I bought in CA was $79.48 for a lifetime tag and registration!

True - this is so every state gets theirs. The state of Oregon has zero sales taxes. All new cars would be sold from there if it were possible to dodge the taxes.

This whole discussion has me shocked that California doesn't have the worst registration fees. (Not a property tax - it's an annual license plate renewal fee.)

Yup, Chris, life is full of surprises. I think many states just get their $$$$ from registrations and license plate (tag) renewal fees and don't do the convoluted property tax things we here in the South do. (I was told years ago this arrangement dated back to when only the well-to-do had cars.)

While the IRS doesn't allow folks to deduct license plate fees, we here can deduct the property tax fees along with the property taxes in our real property.
Win some, lose some I reckon.

People come right across the line here from GA, buy the car, pay the SC sales tax and leave. They pay registration in their state and property tax I guess but they DO NOT pay sales tax again!!!! Your right though I wouldn’t know ****, I was just an honor graduate from the SC police academy and had to know registration and tax law for vehicle tags and registration. Oh yeah they come frome Tennessee too! When you order stuff online do you pay tax in both states?

GA doesn't have a sales tax on vehicle purchases.

You may have been an honor graduate from the SC police academy, but that doesn't mean you know anything about GA law.

Here's the link to TN sales tax law. Show me where it says that if you buy a car in SC you are exempt from paying TN sales tax...

Texas- inspection and license plate fees, sales tax when you sell a car but not property tax on them. Just your house and land. If you have acreage you can get an Agriculture exemption if you bale hay, run livestock(not horses) but any structures are taxed. Ag on the 20 acres I paid $100 tax. Built the sop they valued at 40K jumped to $900/yr!

Round bales and pecan harvest form the pecan trees keeps my tax exemption. Can't imagine what it will be when we build a house there!
