We too would love to see 500 cfm at .900, but I just don't think that will happen with a 2.340 valve. I won't say that it cannot be done, but realistically we think it will take a bigger valve to do it. I'm not sure that even some of the best BBC heads out there are getting that kind of cfm with that valve size. Maybe a 2.375 or 2.400 it will do it, we don't know yet. The other things that we still have not tried or tested because of limited time. Are shallower combustion chambers, 55 degree seats, different valve back angles, larger bore combustion chambers. The list goes on. Like I said earlier, we have just scratched the surface. Paris has a list a mile long that he want's to try, and some of it may help some may hurt. I designed the head to take up to a 2.450 intake valve and hope that on a larger bore that we can crack the 520 cfm barrier. Only time and testing will tell. If only I had 48 hours in a day LOL.

That's what makes the RAM AIR V so very exciting! Most of the show stopper problems with the conventional layout are gone! The more power you make with a conventional head the worse the head gasket situation gets between the exhaust valves. No way to properly cool the head there in big HP applications. The push rod tube that gets bitched about all the time can be tuned into the port and intake tract as you have done. It is so cool to see a CASTING that incorporates many of my thoughts and features we carved into our billet version. Keep up the great work!! It's got to be fun to go to work each day with a bunch of these heads staring at you.

I have to admit. When I first seen a factory RA 5 head. My first knee jerk reaction was that the tube would hinder performance too. After some testing and talking to guy's that have been at this way longer than me. I soon realized that the pushrod tube is not the problem, the valve is. After playing with and testing the RA5 head platform. I really think that if Pontiac forged forward with the concept, that it would have been a game changer. It may not be a Hemi head, but it would have definitely been a contender for sure. The really good thing about this type of platform is the valve train geometry.
All of the pushrods are going straight North. Not at any weird angles creating side load. Making a dream come to reality will definitely put a smile on your face!!!! I'll be allot happier when they are on an engine and sales start to come in though. Just found a chart to convert the flow number we got at 26 1/2". As near as we can tell the port we currently have flows around 497 cfm when converted. Paris is still experimenting with different things and we will keep you posted as we progress. Believe it or not, there is still room to grow. We are no were near maxed out yet.

I took a couple of pic's of the DCI Tiger head intake spacer plates to show the actual size of the DCI 5 ported port. One DCI 5 intake port is almost equal to two DCI Tiger head ports. Kind of put's things into perspective of the potential of my new head. In this picture you can see the intake bolt is pretty close to the port after porting, but the actual production heads it is moved up for more clearance.

Hi Don,
Do you have an ETA on the Intake Manifolds? Steve |

Hello Don,
Seeing that Thanksgiving is just 26 days away, will the Pontiac community and your future customers of the Ram Air V heads, have allot to be thankful for at that time?? As well as maybe some teasing of the intake manifold that will complete the package? I will take a set of Ram Air V Heads any day over a TURKEY!!

Tom V, That has a nice ring to it. Just needs a DCI in front of it LOL.
Rick, We are getting close to having something to be thankful for. I really hope before Thanksgiving though. I think I should have a mess of castings at the machine shop in a few more weeks. Steve, The intake is getting closer. I know I keep saying that, but unfortunately I don't know cad. So I have to rely on someone else to get er done. My cad guy is getting close though. what is the max diameter pushrod you can get in the ported port in the pic?

Thanks BADDTA for the bump. I have not had any new info to share here lately.
J.C., That port we broke through into the pushrod hole which is .520 ID. So if you put a tube in it. I think comfortably a 1/2" to 7/16" tapered pushrod will work. Obviously there are allot of other factors that will effect the end result. Like rocker ratio, and cam lift, but I think that a suitable diameter for the rpm range of the heads can be used. Hi Mike, It's been a little quiet for me as well. Your project is looking awesome!!! There is nothing like seeing Pontiac's ultimate cylinder head with dual quads on top. It gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling all over LOL.
I finally have castings and we will hopefully start machining them in a couple of weeks. When we do, I am going to record the process and post it on you tube for everyone to see. I will keep everyone up to date as it happens on here. I would love to record the casting process too, but unfortunately the foundry will not allow me to do that. To much proprietary info I guess that can be observed during the process. I am also in the process right now with Mad Dog headers getting the tooling made for the most popular header applications to start. We have also been working on the intake design and tooling. So everything is coming together slowly but surely. As soon as I have machined castings in hand. I will let everyone know and will take orders then. I really appreciate everyone's patients with this project. The holidays really slowed us down, but it looks like things are coming back up to speed now. What I really like about your project Don is the split port around the push rod tube. That just makes great logic in design~!

What CC will the combustion chambers be offered with. I am looking at a turbo build.
