69 Firebird in CA at $39K. Has a 350 Chevy, but aluminum heads so it prolly runs nice. I like chrome, but that's a me thing. CA car so no rust and black shows every flaw. Nice car. When I see cars like these, I always wonder what they looked like when they rolled out of the factory?

69 Firebird 400 4-speed NM in Virgina at $68K BIN. I have a 69 350HO convertible project that was originally Palladium silver, and you don't see them very often. The #62 heads on this car are not wrong. I had a 69 Firebird 4-speed in mid 90's and I sent a letter to Pete McCarthy because mine had #62 heads. He actually answered me and told me he'd see #62's on 4-speed cars. Super sharp car.

Nice restoration. I'd be interested to see the trim tag or PHS on this one - curious if it might have originally also had a gold vinyl top. Primavera Beige with Gold interior was a color combo that was popular with California Pontiac dealers in 1968. But most of them also had the Gold vinyl top. I owned a '68 Firebird 400 in beige/gold/gold. It looks cool when all the colors are "right". To my eye, this one also has a bit too much green in the color of some of its interior bits.

The heads are correct. Pontiac heads were matched to camshaft specifications. In the WZ Firebird platform, the 067 cam used the 62 heads. 400 H/O automatics also used the combination.

Pete's book lists #48 heads for stick cars. To my knowledge, the #48 and #62 are exactly the same, but I would consider #48 on 400 stick cars the most common.

I’m sure a few others will chime in but it has been shown in many books and magazine articles. I think the most clear description of the difference is in the first gen Firebird book by Rocky.

Interestingly the 48 heads produced a slightly higher compression ratio than the RAIV heads that year.

Virgin 48 heads generally spec at 72cc’s, while 62 heads come in at 75cc’s. (There’s a theory that 48’s used on 350 HO’s may have been machined as small as 66cc’s — but that’s another unresolved debate). The 48 was matched to the 068, while the 62 was matched to the 067 owing to the profile and compression characteristics of the cam. Lots of threads on this topic back in the day. Rotella’s book canvasses this nicely.

I've actually CC'd #62 heads that came in at 78 CC's. Just did a set of #13's a couple of days that came in at 76 CC's

78 Formula Firebird in Illinois at $24K BIN. It has supposedly 62K miles. I could see buying this car and driving it everyday to work and back which is 25 min for me on a highway that goes up to 65 MPH. Sharp looking car, and while not fast, it has the "350-4" stupid poser decal, so 3 HP there. You'd be noticed everywhere you went in this car. Looks like fun.
