There are at least 7 Pontiacs on the Stock Q-1 list. Looks like Scott Burton has his '70 Formy back on the track & running good ! Others include: Brad Burton, Randi Lyn Shipp, Chris Stephenson, Leo Glasbrenner, Norman Warling, & Lindy Lindholm.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

Looks like 5 SS Cars.

Here's Stock Q-2.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

And SS Q-2. Robert Cruzen is now #3, with his alum head 428 powered Cobalt. Brad Burton is #22, Bill Rink is #32, Carroll Warling is #35, Leo Glasbrenner is #48, Keri Angeles Pari is #58, and Larry is #64. So, unless I've missed somebody, there are at least 14 Pontiac powered cars entered. If ya'll see any I missed, please post that info. Don't wanna leave anybody out.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

So, at this race we have Pontiac 350, 400, 428, & 455 powered cars.

Norman Warling & Lindy Lindholm must have broke, since they didn't show up for round 1 of Stock. All the other Pontiacs move on to E-2. Maybe Norman will post here what happened to his car.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

Carroll Warling & Robert Cruzen survived SS E-1.

There's a make-up race this week in OK.

https://www.facebook.com/TVRPOK/phot...type=3&theater

D3TV is covering it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ubm3rDk_514

But I don't know if there'll be a single Pontiac there, or not.

ponyakr,

It's a small cam 400ci , ( 180/260 HP ) with a Q-jet carb .. So, yes the 350 ci. was a mistake ….

Dave, thanks for clearing that up for us.

Another question. Was your '77 Bird at least partially responsible for the higher hp factor for that engine, when running it in a Bird ? If not, do you know whose car or cars were responsible ?

I assume that one or more '77 Birds, with that engine, ran far enuff below their index to get a hp hit, (maybe several). I see that the last hit came in '03.

http://www.classracerinfo.com/Engine...4&MAKE=Pontiac

But 23 hp is a big difference. So I assume it came in the form of several smaller hits. You and/or others must have been running pretty quick. I was busy with the family business back then & wasn't keeping up with racing. Didn't even know how to use a computer.

If I win a big lottery, I'd like to build a '77 Can Am Stocker, with that engine. It's my favorite of all the '73-'77 A-bodies. Have never seen a Can Am Stocker.

Chris & Leo survived round 3, but Randi Lyn lost a tuff one. Her opponent cut a perfect .000 light and ran a 10.294 on a 10.29 dial. A package like that is nearly impossible to beat.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

They also won round 4.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

Chris won E-5.

ponyakr,

No, I never got HP on the 400 ci Pontiac engine in the firebird .. Back then there were several Fast Firebirds, Don Holmes ,Paul Dilcher, Bob Michaels etc.... I held the record for several years, but never went faster than 1 . 15 under the index !!! Don Holmes & a couple of others got us most of the HP on the 400ci ??? I went from a M/sa to a K/sa in a year with 3-4 hits, which meant I had to add 250-300 lbs to my car ??? That's when I decided to build a 350 P with a HP rating of 250, couple years later 3-4 guys followed me... Then the 350ci got two 5HP hits up to 260hp, since then its got 3hp more ?? That's was about 3/4 years ago, when I bought the 1977 lemans from Bob... I figured it was better car & there are fewer being raced... So that's how I ended up with my Lemans ? There's a couple of 1975 Can Am's being run, Don Elgin in Seattle & Don Turk just Sold Danny Asley's white Cam Am.. Both cars are Fast !!! That's it , hope it helps ?

Thanks for that info Dave !

Didn't know you'd switched the Bird over to a 350. In a '77 Bird Stocker, would the 350 be more competitive today ?

I've always wondered why NHRA would rate exactly the same engine differently, in different body styles from the same year model. I suppose somebody has to run too quick in a particular body style, in order to call NHRA's attention to that particular engine/body combo, and they don't consider any other body style using that same engine, until/unless somebody runs too quick in that particular combo. .

Do you know of anybody running a 350 in Stock, now, in any '77 body style ?

The only 350 Stockers I'm aware of now are some '74 GTO's.

Pretty sure the cars you mentioned are the Grand Am body style. I was referring to the '77 Can Am. It was a one year only model. Was based off a '77 Lemans, but had a shaker hood & a rear deck spoiler.

Randi Lyn, & Chris Stephenson are the only Pontiac names I see on the Stock Q-1 list. But I don't know how accurate this list is, since it has some of the cars running more than 2 sec under their index. Obviously bogus. I assume there are more Pontiacs there, that just didn't make a pass in Q-1. But I obviously don't know for sure.

Robert Cruzen, Scott Burton, Bill Rink, & Larry Maxwell are driving Pontiacs in SS.

https://www.nhra.com/results/2018/lu...alifying-order

But, there's still only 2 Pontiacs showing up on the long Stock list.
