Nice car for sure, but looks like someone spilled a gallon of ArmorAll under the hood! Wonder why a TA with that low of miles has a tin valance panel instead of plastic? Maybe dealership swapped out an already broken part? |

The vast majority of the polyethylene valances shattered while the car was still on the delivery truck from the factory. The flexing while driving up and down the steep ramps stretched them beyond their limits and cracked them at the mounting holes.

Probably the case. I've talked with a couple '73 original owner guys who describe exactly that scenario. Some others didn't even know that their Firebird's did or should have a PE panel.

It is true however over the counter replacement parts were all metal units. Thus the rarity of the Plastic original valance. Its like the holly grail on a car as is the Hairy Hose Just never say never |

Nice car. You can see the mounting points on the poly valance are shattered above the turn signals as well as the upper "bar" on the passenger side. A very common occurrence.
The main problem with these valances was that the lower mounting points at the bottom of the valance that mate up to radiator support were approximately one inch off in location in the valance, forcing the assembly line guys to use their shoulders to shove the valance in place while the mounting bolts were installed. The plastic was under so much stress that the first good jounce the car experienced, fractured it at the mounting points. |

I'd say there's some metal flake in that Brewster Green bird!

I'd love to have those rear bumper guards. From a distance they don't look too bad.
Maybe we'll see that one on Gas Monkey Garage
