Note Lack of visible Red Oxide... for this kind of cake($$) Its a must on a Norwood Body that took a dip... aside from its other issues.

Isn't this exactly what the SD455 engineers devised for the SD 42 years ago! ANd then they got caught, too. :-)

Funny the EPA never carred about a A.I R. pump in plain sight pumping "clean" air into the exhaust system to change the PPM reading of CO !! ( circa starting in 1967)
If you go to Germany and rent a VW passat, it will get en easy 80 mpg, here that same diesel is NOT allowed because it gets too high a MPG and would lower govt fuel tax income.
Good post Steve It sure is odd to see 2 '73's a month apart with different colored engines

Was making some carb adjustment under the hood of the '73 SD today and thought I'd take a couple of pics. The car has 122,000 miles....

I wonder why the engine in that link just posted, why it doesn't seem to have an EUN?
It has the engine code and the partial VIN?

Would like to see the block casting code.

Yes - History has repeated itself. However, the emission issue of 1973 was not just an SD issue, it was a problem that existed on all Pontiacs in 1973. There were two emission systems in 1973. The early one contained a black box timer attached to the TCS. The later system deleted it, along with other modifications. No SD's were built with the offending control. These changes were often spoke about in conjunction with the SD program, because the story of how the intake manifolds were drilled and assigned a new part number, as well as the darker blue paint, was so widely published. But this story also belongs to the entire Pontiac engine line. Thus, owners of early 73 (non SD) Pontiacs will have the outlaw control and engines will be painted light blue.

Part number should be changed to "EPA contraband 73".

As some of you know I acquired a rusted 74 SD. I have what I believe is a good to excellent 74 TA Parts car rust free. Last night I was talking to a friend who has done a lot of body and paint work. He doesn't do much now.We got talking about what it would take $ to redo this car. The wife overheard the conversation. Later told her what it would take. She wasn't against it just wondering. I have been looking around for a good body shop who would do it. I had mentioned Scott Tiemann to my buddy he said find out the cost since it is a SD. So I tell the wife, she says call him Monday and find out. Basically she said if you are going to it dont go half way. I was surprised to say the least.Sooo $$$$$.we'll see.

Wow, my wife usually says something kind of similar:

"Honey, don't do things half-assed...Go all the way and be a total ass."

:-)

Had to laugh. One time it's ok then next it's not. I've put my foot in mouth now need to deliver. She says I'm different when I'm working on cars, happy! Then I do not bother her, I guess.! Trying to figure all what I need.
