I'm having a very tough time around here finding anything decent that's quiet. Jazz and classical has mostly cleaned up fine, but the classic rock seems like it has been tracked with a nail or something even after cleaning. I did find several Byrds albums where the jackets showed heavy use, but the vinyl looked great, and after several cleanings they turned out very quiet.

The new 180 gram vinyl records are expensive. No idea what the difference is as I only have one of the new type.... "Raising Sand" - Robert Plant and Allison Krauss. Haven't played it as I don't have my stereo and turntable set up. And mainly because I want to keep it Mint as I have the CD. Great sound from a combo of one who sang rock and one who sings country.

Here's my 3yo daughter dropping the needle on her favorite song - Chicago's Beginnings. She knows how to hold an album, place it on the platter, cue the needle and drop it. You'd think the kids would be reckless with the albums but they're actually really careful!
I've been digging Rory Gallagher lately. He seems to have been lost in the shuffle among all the more household name guitarists. Took a little while to find a nice original copy of Deuce. The Irish Tour '74 album is fantastic.

Had this album in high school. Found it a few weeks go in a bin. Haven't heard since 71 or so. Didn't remember liking the album as a whole, but remember liking first song Side 1. So played it today.... the album is pretty so so, but "Need Love" was sure a blast from the past to hear again. It may be one of the most ferocious rock songs ever recorded. Not sure about "best", but ferocious. Insane bass / drums on the bottom. If I ever go to war, that will be my theme song.

I don't think that album was highly regarded at the time - somewhat overindulgent. I have the one after that (can't remember the name). I think after that, the drummer and bassist hooked up with a guitarist (from Detroit?) and formed Cactus, and then Jeff Beck. I'd have to look it up to see.

Tim Bogert (bass) and Carmine Appice (drums) left Vanilla Fudge to form Cactus in 1970. Jimmy McCarty from the Detroit Wheels joined them. Later on they did Beck, Bogert & Appice.
I have the first Vanilla Fudge album...they're one of those bands where one album is all I need ;D

 You might be thinking of Rusty Day from Cactus who was killed in a drug deal gone bad. (finally my obscure rock knowledge is paying off!)

I'll give them this - it feels more legit than any other '70's show I've seen. They got a lot of stuff right in terms of the clothing, architecture, furniture, etc. Also love the NYC grit. Buck Rogers would have been a great recurring character.
