I have experienced frame problems myself. Just got my frame powdercoated last week. Temperature during process is 400 deg. max. Don't think that is enough to cause significant movement, but the frame IS 43 years old. (mine is '67). Don't think mine had any prior damage but it was under 6ft. of water during Katrina. I have a hardtop and only the convertible frames were boxed, so the siderails are only channeled. I am boxing mine. Perimeter frames are strengthened when joined to the body so the frame by itself will move somewhat. I found all of my fenders and doors were shimmed when I took them apart, so I expect to have to do the same when I get to that, but am taking great care to measure and level the frame as I re-assemble.

I think if you tightened up the control arms wrong and really drove the car for months hitting potholes and smoking tires alot,then that would twist the frame.

I think the guy is right about the powdercoaters

Phil,is Norman going to paint your car with the doors and fenders on the car?I have been wanting to ask you that for a while.

He has already painted the door jams and inner parts of the front fenders so I am guessing he will paint them on the car..

Thanks. It has been an experience. I don't think I want to do it again. People ask me how much longer it is going to take and I tell them between 7 and 10 thousand dollars!! Don't ask me how long that is timewise because I don't have any idea. If the building industry hadn't tanked I would be a lot closer. At least it isn't costing me anything to sit in my shop.
I may even be able to get the frame straightened by swapping labor.

My biggest fear is that they won't be manufacturing gasoline any longer by the time I drive mine ...Oh well, it's the journey and not the destination....Right?....Right?

Sorry for the late post. I just got back in town. Had to leave unexpectedly due to a death in my wife's family. Her uncle died Friday and the funeral was today. He was 93 and lived a full life and actually looked forward to going home to be with the Lord. His wife of 60+ years passed two years ago. He really started dying then.
Anyway, I have made an appointment with a local shop to straighten my frame in about two weeks. Now, I have to remove all the shims and loosen all the front end bolts before I take it to him. I will be swapping labor so it won't cost me anything out of pocket.

Well, I spent an hour loosening the body mounts and removing the shims. Now I am waiting on the frame shop to tell me when to bring it in. I will update totals next week. Y'all have a good memorial Day.

Still waiting to hear from the frame guy. I can't push him because he is giving me a great deal on the work. I talked to him Friday and he said I could probably bring it in next Friday. He will most likely do the work on Saturday. So, until I get the frame done I am just killing time.
I have a few small jobs this week so that will give me some spending money to put on the car. Heck, in another month I may have enough put back to get some paint put on her.

Well, another late post with nothing much to report. I spent $20.00 on parts and am still waiting to hear from the frame guy.

I took the car to the frame shop Friday. Hopefully it will be there for a couple of weeks. I need to give my shop a good cleaning and repaint the inside. I am going with a shade of gray called chromium. The white cabinets and black counter tops will look good with it.

I swung by the frame shop Friday to drop off the frame specs that I forgot to take with the car. The driver's side door is off and the front fender has been moved forward. I told Bruce to do it when he had time as I was in no rush.
I got my shop painted and most of the junk back in place. I have to box up some old stuff and put it in the storage room.
I may even plumb in a toilet while the car is gone. It's a pain to stop work and walk up to the house every time I get the "urge"! And, since they developed the property behind me I can't even do the "Shakin' the Bushes, Boss"!

Town came to me! Until two years ago I could hunt deer in my back yard. Now, the only thing to hunt is some privacy!

Yeah, there's a lot of that going around. That's the ONLY good thing about living on a dirt road....It's rough on cars but there are strict limits on what kind of structures can be put on the property.
When they pave the road, I'll know the apartments, streetlights, sewage and all that stuff is close behind.
