Thanks GW, that's what I thought (Antique Gold) didn't know if you used a different Gold or not.

Hey GW-
Just curious if you have worked on your Grandmothers 69 GTO lately? Shure would like to see more pics. I really do like the color and thinking my 69 would look good re-sprayed that color. The paint on it is fine, it's just that the color is Expreso Brown With a Starlight Black painted roof. With the car already having the roof moldings I figured I would put on a vinyl roof instead of painting it. Thanks. CB

Charles, actually just took the cover off the car today and getting back on it. Hopefully new pictures soon.
I say go for it as far as painting your car gold with a vinyl top. Not the most popular color and many do not like the vinyl tops however I love both.

I remember back in the early to mid 80's, there was a young guy[around 18] in our GTO club. His dad worked at a local car dealer when a little old lady traded in her 67 GTO, gold on gold. The dad bought the car from the dealer and gave it to his kid. It had 60,000 miles on it, and had every available option installed on it. It even had a side spot light like what police cars have. It was a very cool car.

About 6 months ago I posted the same thing about the speakers for my 73 GTO. I also had used 2 31/2 inch speakers in the place of the original 4X10 speaker. It took a bit of doing but I got it to work just fine & now my single speaker is also a duel speaker set up that makes the radio , an AM/FM stereo 8-Track radio in my 73 GTO.

That gold sure looks nice with the black top and redlines. Those old pics with the white stripe tires look cool too. It was a toss-up for me with tires, but I ended up with Redline bias-ply. Great story, I looked at all the pages on this post last night.

Probably went a little crazy with this masking job! Started by soda blasting the wiper linkage, masked and sprayed black.

Had these seats blasted and powder coated as recommended by my upholstery guy Tom Finley. Just dropped them off with him today to put together and with any luck am going to paint all the plastics tomorrow.

Got all the plastics painted for the interior, arm rests, seat backs and sides, and glove box door. Turned out well.
Went to install the Legendary arm rest pads today and was a little disappointed. They look good but man they don't fit any where near as good as the OEM. I may try to get some yardage of material from them and recover the stock pads at a later date. ![]()

Hey GW those frames look fantastic!! Do you mind me asking what it cost you to have them blasted and powder coated? I know what you mean with the armrest, nothing beats OEM. I had the same problem with the ones I got from Legendary. I wish these folks could get reproductions correct. I guess it's harder than I would think it would be. Keep the pics coming when you can.
Thanks!!

GW, are you using Bulldog adhesion promoter on the plastic parts before
painting them? This is necessary to prevent peeling of the paint later on ABS plastic parts. |

I've done it both ways but for this project I opted to not use it. I did a test piece and it bonded great without. I've had issues in the past with the paint fish eyeing over the top of the Bulldog adhesion promoter.

I usually use the SEM promoter, and the SEM dyes. I think there may be compatibility issues between products when you mix and match, due to the formula of the dye.

So things are coming along. Seats are done and all the wind lace, sail panels and a pillar trim are installed as well as the rear view mirror, coat hooks and seat belt clips.
Installed the kick panels. Used plumbers putty to seal them. At first I ran a bead where it looked like the factory had and installed them, poured water down the cowl below windshield and it ran right in the car. Took it out and reapplied a bit a 1/2 bead right around where the screw holes are and reset. Poured water and all was good. Don't ever let anyone tell you that seal is no big deal! Installed one of the door panels today, it looks great! Carpet and package tray next week and finish interior then going to get the back glass and windshield installed. ![]()
