Yeah I was just thinking he would qualify after he’s become proficient at driving a stick.

Installed a new dome light cover in the '72 T/A.
Had a buddy buff the paint on the '74 Formula.

Drove the 140 miles or so to our hotel. Our 100+ mile cruise is in the morning, then back home.
We filled up about the 100 mile mark because I found a gas station with non ethanol gas, just like I run back at home. Mileage on GTO was 18mpg. Lemans, with its 2.69 gears, got 25! I’m VERY skeptical about this, as I think my son’s pump may have shut off too soon. I’ll average it out over the whole run, and report back.

Slowly and carefully putting the puzzle back together. Working with fresh paint is so nerve racking!

Enjoying the early morning New Mexico sunshine. The local BMW dealer puts on a nice CnC every 3rd Saturday. Friend Jake and his 72 made an appearance.
Fuel gauge is barely moving. Need to fuel up and see what the mileage is. |

Got home from my rod run. 420 miles total.
I thought something was fishy with that LeMans mileage I posted yesterday,so I took the total for each car for the entire run. GTO 15.7mpg Lemans 17.9mpg Not nearly as good on the way out there, but it was held northwest of Milwaukee, and today’s mileage included a lot of suburban type driving. Both cars ran flawless, and my 16 year old got some great seat time diving the LeMans, as wife and I drove my ‘71. The run starting and ending points were at some really nice shops.

Installed 2" drop springs to fix the additional ride height added by the new rear end. For whatever reason, the new rear raised the car over an inch. New springs put it down to 8.25"in the front and 8.75" in the rear at the rockers for a 1/2" rake.
Drove around a lot today and used the Goat as my errand car because the weather was fantastic. The new rear end is dead silent compared to the old 8.2 and the new control arms are a million times smoother than the old ones.

Nose
Tore down the front end to replace the core support. What started as upgrading the brakes and suspension to 2012 Corvette brakes and PTFB GT Pro suspension turned into a snowball project. Corvette brakes required 18" wheels and tires, but the front left tire kept rubbing the inner fender no matter what. Finally traced it to an improperly repaired core support from an accident 37+ years ago before I purchased it. While I have it apart, it was the perfect time to install the Vintage Air system Hopefully should be done this summer.

Went to FirebirdFest in St Louis MO this week. The weather started out wet but improved as the week went on. Turn out was good, haven't heard final numbers yet. There were maybe 20 first gens, a lot of 2nd and 4th gens and a handfull of 3rd gens. Really a well run event.
On Friday the day started off with a show at Gateway Classic Cars with all cars parked by generations. Just by chance I pulled in and parked next to another Carousel Red '69. As I was talking to the oner of that one another one pulled in next to me. I do know the oner of the other convertible but the coupe owner is now a new friend. We left there on Sunday morning and stopped in Pontiac IL for Firebird Day at the Museum. Just had to get a group photo at the Rt 66 mural. It was a beautiful day and we were "top down" all the way home.
