very nice car, great colors. arm rest on passenger side is crooked though. What a nicely optioned car. $299,000 nice? I don't know...sure is a lot of money!
edit....just noticed the driver side arm rest appears slanted as well. Is this factory and I never noticed it before or is some optical illusion going on? |

Great looking car looks like it's been driven, I think a deluxe steering wheel with woodgrain would make that driver side interior pop. The 71 Tropical lime Judge vert for sale at Dallas Mecum Auctin did not have the interior door panel GTO emblems? Another Judge from PA!. Beautiful resto none the less.

This Laurentian green Judge convert was restored nearly 20 years ago & has obviously been extremely well cared for by all owners. As far as woodgrain on the deluxe sttering wheel goes, the woodgrain center pieces wasn't avail till '72 & would have clashed with the Castillian leather dash bezel & console overlays. This car has a restored bezel that received the correct castillian leather overlays that were only avail for a limited time in reproducrion form. Detail wise, obvious things still stick out like the lack of an original open frame "927" alt. Several other issues as well. Love to see a few improvements & the car entered in future concours judging at Nationals.

"the Castillian leather dash bezel & console overlays" ... It's Elmwood Burl

Todd, ck the '71 Pontiac performance brochure, the original overlay is referred to as Castillian leather. Olds used "burlwood" & that material is where the wrong '71 GTO reproduction appliques came from that are being sold by several national vendors.

actually a question here, I've got an original 71 Lemans from Grandma and another barn find from the 70's both had the trunk weather strip seam about three inches right of the center dip. I see alot of resto's and people always seem to put the joint at that center dip. Factory thing or just resto mistakes that have become the new rule? |

Have yet to run across the seam of an original installed '69 or '70-72 trunk weatherstrip centered. Off several inches from center is the norm.

That was interesting to read Mike - thanks for posting. I had never heard about the little metal tab on convertible doors to assist with body stiffness. You can see it in the picture of the door with the Texaco service sticker. Never noticed those before.

Was scrolling through those pictures, saw the one with Jim Wangers signature on the visor...........(sigh)...... All I can say is, why?! I've seen other people have let that guy sign their car too...to each their own...there's no value in that, is there? It's tacky by my book. No offense meant, but if the guy signs anything and everything, is there really any value in having that on your car? 1 of 17 car no less? Don't like it. Easily changed out I guess, I just don't like to see that on such a nice car. Jmo.

Totally agree with you Pat! Its a beautiful '71 Judge convert, & surely will bring a lot of coin. For having won Best of Show many years ago, w/o numerous corrections, don't believe it would score that high today.

I saw guys lined up to have Jim sign stuff at the Year One Experience here in Atlanta, and then again at Co-Vention in 2009. I've read the guy's book and found his career very interesting and informative. There is no doubt that he was a key figure during the glory days of the automotive industry, but I'd never let him sign my car. I had him sign a blank page in the back of my repop owner's manual at the Year One Experience but that was as close as I'd let him get to my car! Agree with Pat - doesn't add value and in the case of the 71 Judge 'vert, somewhat detracts from its classy status.

I've got some books and pics that Jim has signed for me at various times over the years when I've talked with him, but I've never really wanted him to sign anything on one of my cars. If my memory serves me correct the 71 'vert for sale in Charlotte was restored in the very early 90's for a friend of mine out of Florida. It looks like it has held up very, very well. I cannot speak to anything of the correctness. I do remember the approximate cost of the car and restoration at the time. I won't reveal it, but even though we thought it was expensive at the time, you wouldn't believe how little money it actually was.
