Ebay '73 SD
KAINSEL, Block appears correct but it's not numbers matching for all components across the board. Carb not correct. Carb float bowl assembly is for an auto '74 SD. Carb air horn assembly doesn't have the correct slanted vent. Secondary valves in the air horn assembly aren't correct. Distributor isn't correct. No idea on the transmission as there are no pics that I saw. Late production '73 SD....a rare car for sure.

eBay 2019. As this is a Canadian export car there is a very good chance it was once a victim of significant rust. Needs a closer look for sure.

Does anyone know if the rear driver side valve cover bolt closest to the intake manifold has a clip attached to it? If it does is the clip hole for it on the right or left of the bolt? Were there 3 clips per side?
Thanks SD73 |

Not sure if this applies to yours since you're asking specifically about a '73 but on my '74 SD (mostly original), which I'm assuming would be similar there is no plastic push pin clip in that metal bracket hole which btw is on the left side (toward front of car) of the valve cover bolt. (see pic) The frontmost metal bracket hole on that side has a metal clip that holds the taped electrical wire bundle. Interestingly, there is a metal bracket beneath each of the 8 valve cover bolts. A plastic push pin clip is only on the front left bracket (temp sensor wire) and on the rear passenger side bracket (TCS wire). It's very possible that most of the other metal brackets had a plastic push pin clip for some of the emissions related hoses and perhaps a spark plug wire holder but they were not on my car when I purchased it from the original owner back in '77. Hope that helps somewhat.

Thank you for the reply, OldSDGuy. The '73s were actually a little different from what I've been able to tell. It looks like '73s got 5 clips total.
That's a nice engine bay! |

SD cam value
What would you guys say an NOS cam is worth.
just wondering, don't see them come up for sale anymore, unlike rods and SR carbs. Also, K172 intake taken off a fairly low miles SD in the late 70's. Thanks for inputs |

Whatever you decide that intake is worth, I want to be first in line to buy it. It's the last piece I need for my SD engine build.

NOS cam
I would not be terribly concerned about finding a NOS cam. You can have an exact duplicate ground by several cam companies or have a modern take on the original that will be make more power. Once in the engine nobody will see it or know it wasn’t an NOS cam unless it is a totally different spec which would sound way different. It all depends on your goals for the project. Good luck.
I put a hydraulic roller in mine with specs similar to the RAIV cam but a modern updated style with a little more lift to optimize power. |

Driveshaft stripes 74 SD auto
On a 74 automatic SD what is the color of the stripes and location on the driveshaft? I’m restoring my driveshaft and lack this knowledge. Thanks

After blasting my shaft the rings were visible. Measusured from the yoke end flange to locate them. Used a picture from the internet for colors

What is the purpose of the fuel accumulator? Why is a SD only. Also, is it only on 4spd car or is it on both?

Reposting here from my lobby thread on better decals. Does anyone happen to have an OEM SD valve cover decal to reference? I'm working on reproductions that use the correct brushed grain direction, fonts and dotted lines. I ran a small test batch, but think I've got a little more tweaking to do in terms of the color and transparency of the red. I'm also curious about what appears to be embossing on the orignals.
Original example: My prototype: My prototype vs. the existing repro:

Thanks! Everything helps. The red looks richer and maybe not as transparent as the current repros. The embossing is more prevalent than I expected in your pics. I'm having a really hard time finding a place that can do it, but I think it's important for an accurate repro. I've been looking into companies that make wine labels and such, but they've all said they can't guarantee they'll withstand under hood heat.
