Yes it had a console, burl wood appearance. Its hard to read the price due to fading, looks like $5_.55,not sure.

The picture is a couple of weeks after I got it. I remember them being black. I replaced them with American mags within a couple weeks after this photo. Like Moparcolt was saying I ordered it on May 23 68, I came home from Vietnam on 22nd of may 68 9:30 am, A couple of hours later I was out test driving all the muscle cars. Had to have another Pontiac!. Just wanted to get back into the cars.

I started running a sheet last night and hit the same snag as why the RA price showed so low. I am still a few pennies off, but the scan of the window sticker is hard to read. Maybe the destination charge? Would be interesting to see the BHC.


Bob Waa – Welcome! Always great to hear from an original owner - Especially one that ordered the car.

Did you know about the RAII at the time or did the dealer explain it to you? Just getting a call from a salesmen stating you have to pay another $200 more to get your car would have been hard to swallow. That would be $1300 to $1400 today.

The destination charge was $41.50 its at the top of the window sticker. What bob told me was the salesman called him and explained that the RA I motor was no longer available, and they were switching over to the RA II and it would be more money. They told him about the bigger cam and better heads and to him that was even better!

Interesting post about the Nightshade Green 68 Ram Air car and it's original window sticker. The July delivery date and the high VIN number would indicate the car was most likely a RA II. The first 15-20 or so (?) RA II's were billed as RA I and the original window sticker would reflect that ($616.16 for the R/A option). The billing history card (available from PHS) on these first RA II's have a handwritten notation "$101.65 price adj. on R/A eng II" on the bottom. This charge was to the dealer for the price increase of the RA II option. This adjustment is "dealer net" and the dealer would probably charge the customer list price or M.S.R.P. as they did in the case of the Nightshade Green RA II's original owner.

Jim, I Followed baron von zeppelins advice and called PHS and talked with Jim Mattison.(he is helpful) We discussed the my window sticker and he said the ram air II would only reflect the 616.12. I also found a 2008 musclecar review on 68 firebird and they showed the price of the Ram Air II as the same.

Hey Bob, glad Jim Mino and Jim Mattison were able to assist about your old car.

What Mattison was inferring was that - in your particular instance and along with other early Ram2 cars - Only the 616.12 would be reflected on window sticker.
Like Mino also stated.
But the BHC would reflect the correction.
Another first hand account by Mino.


That does not mean ALL Ram2 cars would reflect that same way.
The later cars would have gotten the full charge on window sticker = $ 747.77
And their BHC's reflect the 747.77 charge. (on Birds)

If 2008 MCR mag stated Ram1 and Ram2 were same price - they were very wrong.

Almost 600 posts in this thread and i doubt many newcomers would want to read the whole thing. But from about halfway point forward we made great strides and discoveries. And documented quite a few cars.

The only way to decode option #347 cars between Ram1 and Ram2 is by the math.
There are about 20 examples shown throughout this thread of how that works.
GTO's and Birds.
The prices were different numbers on GTO , than the Bird.
But Ram2 is still higher cost than Ram1 on both specimens.

Just trying to keep the info concise for archival purposes.

It would have been nice if Mattison could have stated if indeed your BHC did reflect hand written notations. I'm sure he pulled it up if you gave him the VIN during the convo. He also reads here from time to time , but has only posted a few times on very rare occasions.

Mino has probably owned more Ram2 Birds than anyone else known in the USA.
They started doing national magazine articles on him and his Birds back in the 80's.
And he still catches ink and airtime with them.

i think a lot of us consider him a hero .

I have had 2 firebird 2506 blocks, sold both in 09- one was a ram I auto last 6 were U135816 (XN) block the other a WU block ramII 4sp last 6 U170604 curious if anyone has or-- has had a car that matchs either of these blocks

Wow. I started this thread almost SIX years ago...and its still going strong! Pretty amazing. Anyhow I know have been MIA from this site for a while and since I just got my photobucket RA II site up I thought I would share. Besides pix and documenation on the car I also added some pretty cool RA II specific docs I have picked up along the way. Guys like Boss, Mike Noun and BVZ should dig on that.

Hopefully this will keep the positive dialogue and discussion going a bit longer. :-)

I was talking to my dad yesterday about his black and turquoise car he ordered new here are the options he ordered:

Heavy duty Radiator
Heavy duty Battery
Heavy duty alternator
Custom Blue Interior
Fold down rear seat
Koni adjustable shocks

Thats it, no steering, brakes, radio, tach, nothing, also had non tinted glass, and had the dog dish hubcaps.

Last time he seen the car was in a gas station in Atlantic Iowa was sometime in the mid to late 1970's he pulled in and talked to the guy that owned it then (the 3rd owner) and he was planning on repainting it the same color.

Haven't had any siteings or last known whereabouts since then.
Dad still hasn't found the build sheet for the car, but hasn't gave up looking.
