"actually made in 9 of 70 but titled as 71."
Start dates for Model Year builds are frequently in the previous calender year. To coincide with fall introductions. I miss my 71 Cutlass Supreme, sold it for $350 when it was 8 yers old. |

All deserved to die except one -- I helped a friend strip and junk a '59 Cad Barritz convertible in the early 1970's.

I stripped a 69 Firebird 400-4 speed. It was a new england car, sao it was REAL bad. The complete black deluxe interior interior was saved along with the drivetrain. Oh well

Yeah I had forgotten about the GTO, Red on red car, dash emblem, P/S, Disc brakes, Auto Posi, HO 400 With 3:90's and a posi. No other options except rally wheels.
THIS IS AN OLD THREAD!

I just got a kick out of it that you posted on it a year ago, then forgot and posted again when the thread was revived. It caught my eye because my first car (bought in 1979) was a 1973 Cutlass. I wouldn't mind having another one, even though I had lots of problems with that one. When I traded it in the salesman told me that they were going to junk it. Jeff

If you expect me to remember what I posted a year ago You'll be sadly disappointed.
If it's not customer related I'm lucky to remember yesterday! MIke

1972 GP SJ 455 TH400 12 bolt rear. Body was trash, frame was broken in 2 places; the car was better off in pieces and almost nothing was wasted. All the other cars I parted were too far gone.

66 GTO-wrong motor, no title, lots of good stuff got recycled. body and frame way gone.
69 LE Mans 428 HO auto, 12 bolt posi. Unfinished project probably could have saved 72 GP like Josh, also 70 GP 455 posi Best one was a 76 TA though. Faded maroon with 400 4sp. had ridiculous gold stripes all over. front nose was ripped off between headlights....Was so ugly that Joyce demanded that I keep all junk under a roof....adn I said I need a(nother) garage...SO in a fit of anger she approved the big building....2 floors parks 12. Unfortunately any future building plans require her signature on the blueprints... |

#1 -- 1978 Pontiac Grand Prix - Red/Red interior, factory 231V6/3spd manual trans car with bench seat, no power brakes, radio delete, and no other options. This car in its final iteration had a 400sbc with a T56 6speed & 9" ford rear with 3.89 gears. It ran low 13s & was a daily driver. I put in a factory red cloth bucket seat interior & added many factory options to it. The floor was rotted when I bought it, so me & a buddy decided we could put a complete floor in from a '85 4 dr bonneville (gbody). It was never right after that & just became a beater. Someone else wanted the 9" rear, I sold the motor, exhaust, & some body parts off of it & then sold the shell to a guy who was racing dirt track. I saw it ready for it's first race, but never saw it again. This was probably one of the funnest cars I have ever owned/driven. It wasn't all that nice to look at, which made it easy to beat the snot out of it with no worries or 'ruining' it. I do regret junking it.
#2 -- My first car...1976 Grand Prix SJ - Red/Red denim/velour bucket seat interior, 400 4bbl/TH400, PW, Cruise, AM/FM, guages w/tach (it really wasn't a highly optioned car). I bought it from a salvage yard for $425, wrecked on the LF. I fixed it & drove it for 3-4 yrs (until I sideswiped a tree & tore the pass side up). I re-built a 400 with a RAIV cam, intake, & modified Qjet, as well as rebuilt the TH400. It ripped ass & sounded great. Someday I will own another 1976 Grand Prix SJ. #3 -- 1967 Tempest Hdtp - 326HO with a 4spd, Black with blue interior with bench seat. Frame was badly rotted, as well as floor. Bought it from the original owner in 1986-7. Would have been a neat car re-done, but needed waaay too much work. #4 -- 1968 Firebird - was a former drag car that a friend of my dad used to race. Had a cage, 4.56 gears, TH400, no interior, B&M shifter, & previously ran 11.60s in the 1/4 (about 1980). I put the 326HO from the tempest (as pulled) in it & was trying to get it ready for the track when I spun a bearing while doing a burnout at my father's shop. After this, the car sat outside for several years unitl it needed too much to make it safe for drag racing. My dad had a customer who needed some fbird parts & it got scrapped. #5 -- 1976 Grandville 2dr Hdtp - Maroon with white interior. Loaded with options (incl climate control). 41K original miles, bought fromt the original owner in early 90's. I pulled the motor to install it in my 76 GP & parted the rest of the car out. Several people told me it was alot nicer than my GP & that I was crazy to scrap it. It was wrong to scrap the G'ville, but too late now. (no pics that I can find). These are only a few of the cars that I have scrapped myself. There were more, but they weren't anything very interesting (2ea Camaro's, Chevy truck, 2 other Garnd Prix's, Grandville wagon). I have helped my father scrap many classic Pontiacs, Chryslers, AMCs, Studebakers, Chevys, Buicks, & Oldsmobiles over the years. Most of the cars in the 80s & 90s were GTOs, LeMans & Tempests, and a few Pontiac fullsize cars too.

1974 Firebird it was red with white int. 350, 3 speed car
1969 Camaro RS/SS 4 speed saved alot of parts off of it, some are now on my 1969 Firebird. The Camaro was a basket case and we had no idea what it might be worth someday. Kick myself every time I think about it! |

Only really regret 3 cars, 2 were offered to me and 1 was mine.
1957 Chevy Tradesman wagon - mine, blew the motor in 69 during a snow storm in the States and "gave" it to a cop. 1970 Cuda 440 6 pack convert - in 1970 Buddy says only 2 years of payments left. I'll sign over the car to you. Keep them up and it's yours. 1957 Chevy Belair Convert, restored in pieces - in 1975 same Buddy said take it home it's your for free, Wife said NO. I listened GRRRRRRR. She still hears about it |

Also parted a 1970 GTO 455 HO 4spd car; it would have been restored today.
