I really don't know what all the excitement is all about. Yea, maybe if you need something that is date code correct for your build, but in my opinion it is not worth anything more than a good core. In all likelihood, the factory cast iron rings are rusted to the cylinder bores after sitting all those years. If not, they have been broken loose by someone hand cranking the engine which could have likely broken a ring or two.

Core. At best I'd give a grand for it once the heads were off and the bores checked out ok Looks like a used engine, pull the pan and find out.

All the Non-Exotic Blocks slated for production engines got an EUN in the process line at PMD.
The EUN came first and was just a succession # , and didn't tie into a car ID until after it went into a car at a final assembly plant.
Then it was recorded and tied into part of the car ID, per se'.
By ID, i don't mean VIN defacto - but through faktry records they could tie from the VIN to that particular EUN.

It was mostly used for warranty / quality control / recall oriented ID purpose.

There were over-runs of each type engine made.
Those could be bought through proper channels.
One example - Knafel had running agreement to buy all over-run Ram3 and Ram4 engines they could get. I doubt anyone had a big hard-on for ALL the over-run 428's.
So likely they could be had through dealer networks.

I can believe it is a non-installed engine, and probably never run from the looks.
Its hard for everything to always get ideal perfect storage conditions/preservation for 40+ years
Think thats what we're seeing in the discolorations etc ..

The water snouts on timing cover look virgin.
And some pieces have been borrowed from it over the years.

Production ready "crate" engine ready to ship to final assembly plants would not have pulleys and accessory brackets until it was build slated for a particular varying application on assembly line. (ps -or ps & ac combo)
Single groove pullies for an Automatic Fullsize or GP is extremely odd.

So maybe it was a full dressed ready to fire tech school unit with just alternator.
Or an over the counter unit, and previous owner installed the pullies/bracket in anticipation of what he thought he was going to put it in.

We had new 302 Fords and 318 Mopars at my tech school.
Full dress ready to fire carb/dist/alt/starter/exh mans/fan/flywheel/breather

I also have a no stampings whatsoever M-22, bought from a member here that will be going in the same car.

It's entirely possible it went in the car and somebody, after a few beers at lunch on a Friday, forgot to stamp a VIN in it.
I have one too. 1971 WC Has a MUN but no VIN.

It could be ANY guy, in ANY trade or line of work.

Stand up if there is a single one of you who hasn't done it at least once!

It's just that that type of behavier is not done in any other auto plant in other countries.
Recalls are just a way for the other non-USA car people to meet.;o)

(Note to self - call Jeremy to check on lunch plans.)

I did not read through all of the posts here but this looks to me like a dealership warranty take out or maybe somebody found a RAIV out of a wreck back then and pulled this to put it in. The condition of this engine looks like it has been run for quite a few miles to me. Probably has a spun rod or main. Just sayin'

Default Oops, Ticked Him Off!

I sent this to him last night and wow did he get defensive
"mbooher,

Just to clarify what NOS really means - "To qualify as new old stock, the items are usually in the original packaging or boxes and sometimes have the original price tags in place (if found in an abandoned retail store). Most of all, they're "new" in terms of never having been sold in a retail environment as they were intended (or made into a finished product), but "old" because they are antiques or collectibles produced many years ago"
I send this to you because the pictures do not suggest this engine is "new" and it would not be ethical to state such a thing unless you have proof such as an invoice or receipt"

I received this today:
"Dear ponchjoe,

Exactly .... What kind of STUPID are you.....? I mean REALLY? Who the F#@k do you think you are? Did you vote for OBAMA? I think maybe so...... Because it is this type of AROGANT IGNORANCE that got him re-elected ! I don't need your One Off version of NOS but since you are so Narcissistic, I am going to post this response back out on my NEW OLD STOCK ACTION for EVERYONE to READ. I really do want the Pontiac People to REMEMBER the name "PONCHJOE". If you are not going to BID on this NOS Engine then keep your MOUTH SHUT! I don't need any ADVISE from YOU! Or if you would like to come by the SHOP to CHECK it out in Person, I would WELCOME YOU to STOP on BY..... We could have this discussion in PRIVATE........You SIR.... are a F*#k'n IDIOT !"

Guess I should have kept out it but he obviously knows he is full of it or wouldnt react this way. I hope he's not a member here....
