Colin-
You're right about the G-mod being for First Gen F-bodies only. GM engineers learned and improved the geometry of the Second Gen.

The G mod was originally a cheat...

I have a 1980 trans am that I built with a 468 pontiac with 575hp a tremec t56 6speed magnum. Narrowed Moser 9' wavetrac rear 3:90. the car was mini tubbed for 18x12 billet snowflakes it has c6 zo6 brakes all the way around powered by a hydroboost set up. Custom leather interior including roll bar and full autometer guages. I used a 2014 camaro center console. It only has 472 mi it needs air conditioning BAD I want to enjoy the car.

Started auto-crossing last year. Still run the 15x8 snowflakes wheels for regular driving.

Not sure how I missed this one. Although I'm not certain I would call my car pro-touring. I think it fits into the street fighter category a bit better.
462 th400 moser 12 bolt with trutrac and 3.73's Hotchkis springs 4 wheel discs Tall ball joints, modern alignment 17x8 front, 17x9.5 rear (245/47/17 and 275/40/17 Sport Comp II rubber) It's fairly light on "pro-touring" but does decent out on the street. Having a factory oil pan, I've so far been hesitant to push the car on track for fear of damaging the engine.

Here's my pro-touring 70 Formula...it's been in the works for a while, but things should start moving in the next couple month after another huge project is finished.
DSE subframe, Quadralink rear suspension, single adjustable shocks, mini tubs, 6 point roll bar, subframe connectors. Baer 14" Pro Plus brakes, Forgeline CA3 or GA3 18x12, 18x10. Aluminum IAII 535, Fast EZ EFI 2.0, Ricks Tanks with ZL1 fuel module with Vaporworx, close ratio T56 Magnum, narrowed 9" with 3.50 gears. The original plan was to try to maintain factory vibe so I'm keeping the emblems, factory window trim, Formula hood. It will be carousel red (original color). Still a long way to go. |

Nope, Gator certainly isn't. I'm pleasantly surprised with the turnout here. There's some really neat stuff being built. Keep them coming fellas!

My 1974 Formula 400
These are just a few teasers until I have enough of it done that it can be properly shown. What I started with... Fitting up some 18x9.5 Ramblers- These are going to house 285 40 Tires. The old 235 60/14's next to it... Fitted onto some CPP C5 spindles- they are BIG... Old 11" vs. 13.4"- it should stop! It's getting the Z51 rear rotors too...

I thought I saw elsewhere that a spacer would be needed for the C5 calipers to work. Maybe the CPP are different? Logo being ground off? |

I'm using 18" wheels because I am running C6 Z51 brakes, not standard C5/C6 brakes, so my abutments(caliper mounts) are about 1/2" taller than standard mounts. Standard brakes should mount up fine behind a 17" rim.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that C5 Vette's came with 17" rims stock- it's the spacing between the wheel mount and spokes of the Rambler that may have an issue.
If that's the case, a slim spacer may be required.

I'll jump in. I call mine the " poor man's pro-touring " car. Bought it back in 79 before it was a thing. Had a buddy that autoX'd his maro till he bought a vette. I bought some of his left overs. AutoX'd with his vette club a couple of times. It was fun. Then car sat through kids and such. Back on the road about 2000. Put it out on a road course for the first time with drum brakes. Scary! Been out a few times since and every time it shows me where the next improvements need to be made. One time it's brakes, the next time it's suspension, the next it's more power. There's really too much to list here but most everything has been bought on the cheap or fabbed by me. 12 seconds is a kick but that white nuckle ride and ear to ear smile that you can't wipe off is hard to beat.
This the only shot I have loaded up on this computer from Laguna Seca roughly 2010.
