We still have several of the 1966 sheets to post and then the 1965 info will be next.
More than a few 65 sheets also. I hope the Pontiac Guys are learning from this exercise. Tom V.

Is the needle/seat on the 1965 rear carbs the same as 1966 that you have posted ?

The Rear Carb uses the same calibration (same needle and seat, as well as other parts) on the 389 1965 engine and the 389 1966 engine. Carb number 3025179 (Manual Trans Engines).

Tom: Thanks for the quick response. Is the needle/seat available as a nos part, or from parts stores made by other manufacturers?

At one time, the Needle and Seat was available as part of the Rochester Tri-Power Kits
from NAPA. I have not followed those parts for many years. I do not rebuild carbs for people. Dick B, John Hargrove, and others do a fine job with that task. Being a Holley Guy, I have lots of rebuild parts for the popular Holley High Performance Carbs I own. Somewhere in the shop is ONE SET of NAPA carb kits for my 64 GTO if I ever put the original carbs back on the car. Not likely in the near future. So maybe too much info vs just saying talk to Dick B, Jon H, and the carb builder in Ohio. Not my deal. Rochester carbs even though I probably have 100 cores in bins I have collected over the years. I will have to go thru my lists and make a search for correct Air Horns, Main Bodies, and Throttle Bodies for the Tri-Power Systems and put them up for sale. Tom V.

They have a wealth of knowledge and between the two of them I would say you have a high probability of getting your questions answered.
This thread/topic is solely to post up info on the Tri-Power Carburetor Build Part Numbers and drill info for the carburetors. Maybe you could start your own topic/question addressed to both of them. Words above too long for the topic line. Tom V.

Holy Sh@#!
I have a '64 GTO with a '65 Tri-Power Manifold and carbs; which I believe were the same for '64 and '65 but center carb changed in '66? I'll need to sit down and start reading this thread from the beginning. A lot of info here. I'm currently changing my center float because it filled up with fuel. Any advice on maintaining my Tri-Power is greatly appreciated. Carbs were rebuilt by last owner about 8 years ago and have about 6,000 miles on them. Would changing just the float at this time be advised or should I rebuild the whole carb or carbs?

If you post up the carb tag numbers off your 1965 Carbs when I do the 65 Carbs I will
prioritize those carbs for posting the info on them when I finish the rest of the 1966 carbs. There are still new floats out there that people have purchased over the years. I also have a supply of used floats that might still function properly for you if you cannot find a new float. A bad float is not a good thing on a historical 1964 GTO. Tom V.

Info on inlet needle valve pull clip on end carbs from 1963 says none used.
Info on inlet needle valve pull clip on end carbs from 1966 says clip #7006474 is used. Was there an issue with sticking inlet valves on end carbs before the use of the pull clip? What year did they add the clip? |

Going thru the 1966 Tri-Power Applications so far, Kenth, some have the "pull clip" and some do not. I believe the older stuff used a solid steel needle and seat assy.
Then Pontiac and others went to the Viton (or other material rubber tipped needles). These needles sometimes stuck in the seat if the gas evaporated, The pull clip would very gradually remove the needle from the seat as the gas evaporated, then No Stuck Needle. So far posting the 66 info, the clip seems to be random because I am going by the sheet part numbers and have not gone to the 1965 sheets to see where the clip might have first appeared. Tom V.
