After my previous 4.210 stroke 462 was together and installed we took it to the track and it ran 10.94 at 123.59 mph on the first outing. This with a TH400, 3.73 gears and a 10-inch Continental torque converter. Soon after for interest we changed to a 8-inch converter and it ran 10.88 at 124.28 mph. But with the intention of being a street car and seldom raced the Continental converter was a better fit. I also choose to use a Performer RPM intake on the street. The Victor intake made 20 more hp on the dyno, had I tried it at the track with the looser 8-inch converter it would of run faster. Choose what fits your needs.

My victor wouldn't clear the hood or I'd be running it right now on the street. I'd sell the hood to someone that needed it before I'd even consider hacking it. I don't like running without one.

It had the victor on when I installed it. I don't like inviting people to mess with my **** while I'm in the grocery store. One retard can ruin your day way to easy.

Formula hood, I suspect a modified Holley Street Dominator intake would work well presuming the use of a single-plane intake was needed or desired. I have a HSD intake modified by Dave Bischopp that on the dyno at peak power rpm produced only 11.5 less hp than the Victor intake on the same 462 engine. At peak torque rpm the HSD intake produced 589 ft.lbs torque and the Victor intake was 595.1 ft.lbs torque. Both intakes had a 1/2-inch spacer installed, same HP950 carb and both were port matched to the cylinder heads.

The Victor has to go back on. I'll deal with the cheap ass intake that's on there now until I find another hood.

No compromise on the Victor. I didn't buy it because it looked cool.

A fwiw, to help hood clearance I cut down the carb flange 0.650" on my Victor intake. Tested on the dyno I lost 8-10 hp at peak power rpm by doing so. This on my current 505 cid combo. Jim Butler did the same on the Year One Bandit Trans Am project and lost about 15 hp on the optional 535 cid engine.

I could clear the stock hood on my 69 but there wasn't much clearance. My 73 is way off. Ideally I'd like to find and already hacked up Formula hood and add a center scoop.

I think you just put together a very nice combo and spent alot of time test n tuning. You took the time to try different parts and kept testing to find the small gains. Little by little chipping away at the ET and MPH. I did the exact same thing with my buddies Challenger 360 small block Mopar. We started off running 13.2's at 103 dead hooking. Now doing the same thing you have got it down to 12.0's at 111. Its been a blast doing it as well!

Anyone that can dip into the 10s with what I would call a highway gear is ok with me. Naturally I want to see you go faster.

Steve your real world results are always appreciated...I appreciate the others but still trying to wrap my brain around a few...Especially the fast street car that runs 13.5 at 130??

Bwahahahahahahaha, I'm confused as well

I ran 129 mph on the motor many years ago with a 4.125 stroke combo. But that run was in conjunction with a 10.36 ET.

Runs consistant 130mph (1/4) turning 7,200 rpm's in 2nd gear.
3.08 rear with 28" 275/60/15
ET's all over the place but best was 13.5 with 2.5 sixty foot.
TH400 2nd gear with the 3.08 would be close to having a 4.56 in drive.
Would love to see a time-slip.

EA Drag Pro says.
If the car was 3400 lbs and engine was 650 HP

With traction, would run a 1.5 second 60 foot < 43 MPH
1/4 would be 10.3 at 130 MPH

Kill the traction for a 2.5 second 60 foot < 29 MPH
It looses 14 MPH by the 60 foot mark

1/4 comes at 13.4 at 122 MPH

Torquewar, I recommended the 3.73 gears for your car if you added a Road Paver cam and 4200 continental converter.
Imho the goal is to keep the engine where it's making the most average power and keeping it in that window of rpm down the track, yes Ernie's car would pick up with a 3.42 gear but at the expense of drivability, and you wouldn't be so hard on the vert either.

Yes Derek been contemplating the last week or so on the next step if i choose to go there.
Tough to give up excellent street manors for tops half a sec. Fast is addictive but....
Its also really about bang for the buck. Not cheap to rework . decisions..
Its nice to read and get some great real world experience from guys like you who post frequently.
Many guys here who have forgotten more than i know....but i like the challenge.
