new principle & Biz Administer..........the school has basically turned into a prison camp. It's hard to just take parts over, I have to go thru security and its a PIA. Watching times of arrival and departure so I can't BS and play there anymore.
Its been up & running, the class was working to get the gauges working. A/C still needs mock up. Then I need to get the exhaust hooked up at a muffler shop. |

Sorry about the lack of updates.......not much happened!!
Trans is out for rebuild, upgrading to 30 spline and HD hard parts. 455 will be getting assembled, and hope to get the sub frame & built 400 out in the next couple weeks. Paint up the engine bay......... |

Trans is done........have to get the converted ordered.
About $1200 in the trans, labor for the rebuild included. Gonna do a Moser 12 bolt conversion and maybe alum driveshaft. I have a brute strength carrier in my parts stash purchased used here a few years ago. Gonna have that gone thru and stay with the 3.73's! |

Trans and converter is in. I went with a TCI Breakaway they say it stalls 1000 rpm over stock. Have to get a dipstick and new Speedo cable........coming along should be test driven next week!

unilite distributor stopped working so I took over a standard dist to get it running.
Should be up & running Monday or Tuesday. No exhaust yet so will just be going thru the gears on the lift to confirm all is good with the new trans. |

all up and running now! Exhaust is completed but not great welding (kids), A/C compressor mounted, took up the condenser today. Needs a radiator & oil & water temp sending units.
Fan hooked up to relay goes on at 200* off at 185*. Wipers, heater working no defrost yet maybe a vac line. Radio next week, tires and alignment next year! Might have a hood clearance issue with alt & bracket.........we'll see. Gonna do a 12 bolt swap when cash allows........ |

Almost all parts together for the 455 build.
Bored .030, Ported 6X heads, Comp Cams 244 @ 50 & .500 lift. Factory HO intake & carb set up. I'm using the factory offset scoop hood. It was functional so gonna try to work that out also. Seems the cam might be too big for the combo. Gonna give it a shot see how it runs on the test stand and replace if needed. |

But hey, if you just want a thumper, that cam will do it. Probably won't make enuff vac for power brakes, even with Rhoads. An 041 clone/Rhoads will. And, yes, I have run this combo with power brakes. Idled smooth, brakes worked good, launched from an 800 rpm idle, with a stock converter. Not enuff cam for most on this forum. But, still a nice, mild mannered cam, for a DD 455. IMO https://www.summitracing.com/parts/c...w/make/pontiac Last edited by ponyakr; 01-26-2017 at 02:33 PM. |

Thanks for the heads up!! Cliff did say it was a nasty cam!
I was thinking of retarding the cam 6* to try to tame it down a little. What do you think? It's going to be broke in on a test stand so if it's really too wild I can change it out. I'll maybe put in a vacuum can......I'm not gonna be driving the car all that much. What did you run with it? How much horse do you think you made? |

I haven't taken it to the track yet. A similar engine ran 7.30's at our local 1/8 mile track. So, this car will also run in the lower half of the 7 sec bracket. I assume that will = the upper half of the 11 sec zone, on a 1/4 mile track, as a footbraker. Or, you could obviously make it a little quicker, if you wanted to.
I would estimate the hp at 425, and the torque at just over 500ft lbs. "...I was thinking of retarding the cam 6* to try to tame it down a little. What do you think? It's going to be broke in on a test stand so if it's really too wild I can change it out. I'll maybe put in a vacuum can..." I would not waste any time or $$ trying to use that cam for a street driven car. |

All broke in........and it's sounding pretty wicked. Idles pretty smooth at 750 on the stand. Will no doubt have to be at 850-900 so it doesn't stall in drive.
Doing some touch up in the engine bay should be back in some time next week!! |
