That's the thing about Pontiac racing history; and the sad thing, as well.

Those numbers that were put up as far back as 35 years ago, really haven't been marginally improved on in as many years.

It's particularly sad, especially given the huge strides made in engine block, cylinder head, induction, and camshaft design in this long of a time frame.

Scott, I disagree.

It's only been in the last 10 years of the 35 that you mentioned that any degree of improvement in parts has occurred.

And as for the times, we have racers today that are going as fast as Top Fuel cars did 35 years ago, and they're doing it in heavier door cars on alcohol.

Not to mention that fact he later ran single engine Pontiacs later on Nitro and into about '65. He had to run well into the 7s by that time. He could have had 1-3 cars that should be on your list.
* What about that Chapman Automotive V powered injected nitro burning '69 Judge flopper? I think it ran very low 8s.
* What about Beswicks '69 Super Judge flopper? I am sure in ran mid to low sevens. Arnie has to have at least 2 additional cars that are not on yor list ('69 Super Judge and '68 GTO both were floppers).
*Another possibility is the Royal sponsored injected V powered niitro burning Trans Am flopper (unsure of times).
* How about Jess Tyree? He ran blown 421 nitro floppers into 1968. He has to have some 7 second time slips.
That is 6-10 or so more that have been over looked. Many on your "all time list" will get bumped way down after you include everybody. I am curious as to why you have excluded these cars? If anyone thinks they will bethe top 10 or 15 on carbs and gas n/a forget it now and forever.

Also, I have documention that Arnie ran the 6.94. He told me he did and i got it in writing with the picture of the car. It is his signature. If he didn't do it, he is a liar. who is to question? on the other hand, it does seems a bit fast for the day but, it is possible he could have done that and I accept him at his word.

Wow! I thought I was the only Pontiac person on this board that knew about Raymond Walker and his Pontiac powered "Sunshine" Vega funny car from the mid-70's.

In the last year I personally tried to get in touch with Raymond Walker. I spoke with one of his former crew members, Robert Flitsch, and he said he hadn't seen or heard from him in at least 20 years. Raymond was an Army drill instructor stationed out of Fort Knox and was one of the many "match racers" from that era, never running for a living like most others were. The car was mostly set up as a BB/FC (blown alcohol), but occasionaly they tipped the can for certain match races. I tried to get more info from him as to what hardware he ran, and he wasn't sure about what type crank was in the car but that it was a 421 (likely a 990 if they were tipping the can). He did say the few times they grenaded the engine on nitro was not a result of a busted piston/rod/crank (from "inferior" parts), but because the tuneup was "off".

Here's a link showing the car, as well as the Gay's car, and the Centurian Firebird (which is what the seller told me my car was when I bought it, but I knew it wasn't true). Also shown is one of my favorites, the Green Elephant (that car looked bad a$$ even sitting still).

I'm gonna hijck this thread for a sec- While I know there are alot of fast Pontiacs out there, we are still very overlooked. Ken Keefer replied on the Proline crank post about needing some good forged cranks, cast intakes, and heads that flow---why don't we see many of these products?? At the NSCA or Pro events that I attend I try to talk to the company reps and tell them what we are missing- hoping that someone will listen- but when these reps look in the staging lanes and see the turn out and there are only a very small handful of Pontiacs they don't relay the info back to the companies. Let's face it- we are not going to get alot more stuff until people get off their asses and go to the track. Racing at Pontiac events is fun but that is not where the company scouts hang out. Until we are putting other makes on the trailer then we will be noticed. The cars in the list are fast but who outside of the Pontiac world knows about them?? I applaud guys like Ray,Bruce M, Tommy Thompson, Jeff Pucket, Ken Keefer, Lynn McCarty,etc that are out there putting brand X on the trailer. Has anyone thought about inviting some of the aftermarket companies to a MAJOR Pontiac event?? Go to Fun Ford or Super Chevy and see who is there- go to Norwalk and all you see is used parts- now off the soap box and back to the topic- if there are more people hitting the big events this list of fast cars would be 10 times longer because we would have the right parts to do it with!

i asked when they last put either of their cars in a Q16 field, not how many passes it required to win a race. as was noted before, most of the time i've seen them run have been exhibition passes against arnie or eric.

that being said, i've seen rodney's car go down the track at least 2 or 3 times on the same weekend more than once.

Just to let you know Gabby the New R&D guy at Wilson Manifold made 860 documented horses with no Nos on a stock 455 block and crank last year. They are presently looking for a chassis for this motor. Im sure once they stick they will be the fastest no spray stock block poncho in the World. I heard they are porting E-heads and Victor combos to help reproduce these numbers for paying $$$ customers

then again I might have a contingency plan theres a stock suspension car being built in my garage now, (not for me) and if the driver can handle the learning curve, he might be running my spare at Norwalk to make sure Im represented in in some way for 2005 he has a nice new Ia2 here now, but the rest is on the way
