It was all we could afford at the time and through good machining we made it work to that point...the old castings are a lot better than today's overseas castings. We were able to buy a forged crank last summer, and have been running one since. I was only addressing the question about factory block strength.

Horsepower = cfm x HPfactor x 8
HP Factors reg Bracket Eng .240 Good Bracket Eng .250 Super Stock engines .270 to .295 NHRA Comp style engines .300 to .320(some single carbs some duel carbs) My 455SD is .280(low compression) HP = .280 x 8 x 305 = 683HP Stacy's 428 is .310(13 to one) HP = .311 x 8 x 305 = 759HP Turbo engines are built for handling boost, heavy pistons, billet rods, piston below the deck causing severe quench trying to run nomally aspirated. They also have small headers limiting HP without the turbos on so typically peak torque is higher than peak HP. Tony's flow bench is a little off so we use the corrected values per Tom Vaught's awesome flow plates for a correction curve for more accurate results. It is spot on! HP = .320 x 8 x 400 cfm = 1024HP HP = .320 x 8 x 470 cfm = 1203HP Higher cubic inch engines make more power. So we are hoping for a bit more on the 620 eng. We have seen Tony show big numbers, we are up big time. Langer is up big time. Phil Monteith is up big time. Tony gets numbers higher than most. We cant wait to get these engines on the dyno/track.
