Yeah, pictures don't really do it justice and it is bigger in person than you would expect. Black and midnight blue cars actually look smaller than the other colors too. I commend you for your excellent choice of not taking it for a spin too. Even without any booze it's difficult to not get overzealous with this car, and it can get away from you in a heartbeat if you're not very careful.

Yeah and that trunk is huge. Not. This time I am bashing the new GTO. The trunk is a joke. At least your LeMans has a trunk you can take your family on vacation with. Ain't going to happen with the new GTO.

I was at the POCI race with my son. I was hopeing to impress him. He is torn between the new Mustang and the new GTO. The new GTO's were(for lack of a better word).... sad. Mid 14's at best. TinInjun would have smoked em all with his GTP. It was hot and humid but it was that way for everyone. At least it was a little cooler than the Shootout the day before. Any idea what 12.36/113 factors out to at 4200' and 100 plus track temps? -Jim

Yes, Skip has skills.

The Auto Fbodys were slower than the sticks, until you got the converter.
The Auto NEEDS the converter, and a tune and it's an automatic (pun intended) .5+ improvement.

The sticks need a computer tune and a driver.

I watched the BMR GTO go thru every step, as they used RevXtreme and Jeremy Formato to Dyno and tune it... It started slow, and now it's running low 10's...

But I know this 04 GTO runs pretty well...

RX did a Cam and ProCharger install, along with a Jeremy Formato tune and I think they ended up with over 560 RWHP... The tape ends early as the owner had to leave.

There was a '02? Duramax GMC Diesel running 113 mph in around the 11s I think it the tow vehicle catagory. TinInjun might have a better idea than me. All I know is it was mega-fast.

I saw the diesel run. He was really flying. Awesome truck. I don't think he ran the tow truck class though, beleive he ran Warrior(not sure). Thanks TinInjun for the info

It is because the fuel tank is in the trunk to make the Feds happy for crash standards and to get a true dual exhaust on the GTO. The new 08 GTO won't have that problem.

I was funny how little the trunk was.

Has anyone had any truoble with their speedo & temp guage in the 04's? The guy that had that one said his speedo went all the way around once when he started it and the temp maxed out. He also had some trouble with the radio control on the wheel.

he said it has an auto shut off that you can set for whatever speed you want. he set it for 30mph once just to see what would happen and it didn't shut off.

I don't know any thing about the new GTO's, I told him to join the board and ask some of the guys on here.

No speedo or gauge problems. Twice the radio volum ebuttons on the wheel have done opposite what they are supposed to . Those on the wheel sure get you spoiled.

The trunk is pretty small, because the gas tank is in a cage back there. I assume for clearance for the IRS is why it's not underneath.

There are spme local guys running 12s here with minor mods. The 05s at the dyno day we had all were about there. Headers, can and a tune gets the 04s to 400hp.Buddies 05 put out 337 rwhp.A stick and he had bad launch problems at the track, forgot his times.

I was out running with my 73 year old father today. A yellow '04 or so GTO drives by.

So I asks my pop, I says "Yo, pop; whaddya think about that new GTO there?"

"Huh?"

"That yella thing that just went by."

"That's the new GTO? You've gotta be sh!ttin' me, boy!"

The '04 guage issue rarely if ever pops up from what I hear. What happens is that when the car is started, the speedo will jump up to 200mph. Turning the car off and on again clears it. If it becomes a problem I believe there is a flash update for the '04 guage clusters to fix it...not an issue with the '05s. As for the settable speed on the guage cluster, it's not a shut-off. It's an overspeed chime. You set it to warn you if you're exceeding a certain speed...helps keep the tickets to a minimum. (mine's set to 130

). There is, however, a rev limiter to protect the motor, and there is a 155mph governor (in software) that can be eliminated by most tune shops. The reason it's 155 is that you wouldn't want to go much past that without first upgrading your tires and suspension. Like Skip said, the place for any and all info on these cars is LS1GTO.com.

I know my SS Vert would do the same thing when it was cold out. It would peg the speedo and the tach...

Just have a camera ready, and snap a shot of the pegged needles...

The 04 GTO was already a Monaro which when designed was never inteded for the roads in the USA. It also takes on avg of 4 years to go from sheet of paper to showroom for new cars.

Nope, GM isn't in my portfolio.
