I had a "loose"fit pilot bearing in my 440. Staked the bearing in several places per Ken Crocie. My initial fears have subsided as this was 2 yrs. ago.

Hey Tom,

I might try your idea. I just pulled my 389 and am getting ready to put in a 455 this spring. I was thinking about changing the clutch because the pressure plate is pretty glazed as is the disc. The problem that I have with changing it is that there is a ton of material left on the disc and it seems like a waste. I would assume that when you glass bead the disk, it is done at low pressure to just remove the shiney surface so that you don't remove any disc material. Do you do anything to the pressure plate or the flywheel at that time? Also, how do you get all of the glass bead out of the disc when you bead blast it?

Since Tom V just announced a 3-week leave of absence, don't hold your breath waiting for his answer.
In Tom's absence- how about if you tried first blasting it with a media even less aggressive than glass bead? I don't remember specifics, but there's about a half-dozen 'gentle' media types available.

Any machine shop acan resurface the flywheel. A clutch shop (if there are still any around) can rebuild the clutch; resurface, replace springs as needed and any other parts, assemble, and balance. A good shop can make it better than most over the counter ones and tailor it to your needs.
