venemous type: just curious, but what year car did you buy those panels for? I have heard from a few people besides myself that the ones for 63's suck, but maybe they are decent for other years...? I've only seen/worked with the 63 ones.....

Being the manager of an auto parts store allowed me the time to figure out that, on the '63 Cat at least, the shocks (front & rear) are a direct cross to the '91-96 B-Body GM stuff, so the Edelbrock IAS shocks & any other performance shocks for those cars will bolt right on...

My 62 Cat is a California car.The only thing that is rusted out is the trunk floor.Not being able to find a decent trunk is the only thing that is holding me up on my restoration.
I would be first in line to purchase repo trunk pans!

I know it was touched on, but I just did an exhaustive search of virtually every one reproduced, & re-upped my peeve on this one. There are a ton out there. These should be repopped for our cars. The closest thing I have found is a '68-72 Pontiac A-body. I am going to buy & hack up for an insert. Was wondering if doing a fiberglas cast like Stuart did for the shift porch would work with some metal ears inserted at the mounting locations.

i'll agree on the batt boxes every one i've seen is damaged.

burce,i think you'd have to reinforce the 'glass with metal to keep it from destroying itself because of the vibration and weight.

The single most frustrating thing about restoring big cars is their lower resale value when completed as compared to Trans Ams or GTOs with comparable, or lower, restoration costs.

I bought a set of those Ebay 1/4's for the 65' Cat.. The guy is in Canada and they look like the could pass as siding for a shed. I bought them because they where cheap. I cut them up because I only needed that lower rear wheel openings. Don't expect them to fit right because the lines are totally off.
The lack of available parts is fun, it's part of the challenge. I've built Camaro's, Corvette's, etc. and it's getting to the point were there not restorations anymore but mere "bolt-on" builds.

Well it all depends on how you look at it. If you restore cars for a living, the availibility of parts is a plus. Personally I take satisfaction in building cars that not everyone can do.

omarsphatt, is a '91-'96 B-body GM = Impala/Roadmaster? If so, hah-ley-lou-yah!

I found out that the local parts stores had no listing for any 59-60 rear shocks. My counter man found that Isuzu Pickup rear shocks fit perfect.

I got a nice set of KYB's for my 67 cat, new.
But yes, sheet metal and rear ends are the biggest PITA by far. A close second is every Tom Dick and Harry coming up, asking if it's a GTO, then acting sorry when it's not.
Just look at this PY site, it's all Firebirds and GTO's, and I dont know anyone who can afford one anymore. Surely the market would dry up on those? Guess it shows I'm not good at judging markets.

I'd jump in line for a trunk pan too, so don't let us keep you from your work Jerry H! And, for gregneun, it wasn't usually the trunk seals it was the rear windows that leaked.

In your post 14.02.2007 you mentioned a among others Goodmark , Sherman etc .Whoare Sherman And where can I find them I tried google but got everyone else named Sherman.
