Gach you said his exhaust system was good. I would be willing to bet if he kept his exhaust hooked up and just removed those muffler the car would run almost as fast as it would with open headers.
Well I guess we'll never know who's right, unless someone actually dose testing and even that isn't a 100% because every motor combination responds differently.

I dropped my 3" x pipe and spintechs with 2.5 out at the track and went .015 faster. They weigh about 70#s. Much of the gain was weight. I also cut the 2.5 outlts off a d went to 3" in/out gained a few hundredths.

yes new exhaust, much louder, maybe too loud, different headers but same size primaries, 4'' collectors, 4'' bullets. should know how much it helped soon.

They make cones that fit right in the end of the muffler
they slide in....drill two holes and bolt them in. quiets it right
down. Very easy to take back out. I used those big 4" clamps
to join the muffler and pipe together. Just unbolt the clamp
and it slides right out. Cuts the noise right down. Actually quieter
then the X pipe and spin tech mufflers. Love them, now I don't
have to worry about people calling the cops when I start the car
up.

Jeff. I'll bet there's a he'll of a difference over
the x pipe. My guess you fine it'll run 9:80's
closed exhaust.

Tell me. LOL. Actually the 4" were quieter then the 3.5" on my car. One day, I'll get my 2 1/8" /2 1/4" into 4" back on the car.

I have heard cars with 2 sets of bullets (front after collectors & rear before the axle) and really quiets them down.

No but the SpinTech is a chambered muffler. They definitely don't flow as well as a straight thru muffler and with this type of horsepower, it's likely that by just changing them to a straight thru muffler, he'll go a little quicker. If he removes the tailpipes, it's likely the same thing will happen but that would be mostly due to the weight savings.

I don't agree that by removing the X-pipe that he will go faster but it would be a great test! We have three forums members that went from open exhaust to Pypes 3.5" X and 3.5" Race Pro Mufflers(straight thru) and all quieted the car down dramatically and their times stayed exactly the same even though they added 75 lbs for the exhaust.

If it's time to beat up X-pipes again, somebody should start another topic. You had bad results. There's three active forum members that I have personally worked with running 9-and low 10 second cars that have had very good results. You really shouldn't make a blanket statement like this. That's what gets you in trouble on these forums.

Agreed.
I'd take it one step further. Switch to a 3.5" straight thru muffler and it should go faster.

Thanks again fellas!!
Next goal is to keep combo the same and tweak a little to see what i can get out of it.
Car was lean,13.5 afr but didnt know till i looked at logs the next day so there is some power there to be had.
I was gonna try dropping exhaust but wanted to run it in street form,i even took the time to alter and mount my tailpipes back up after the rear susp changes rite before the rental cause i wanted to run it the way i drive it on street.

All in all,i praying for some 9.60s when all is rite.

Im not gonna take the car to englishtown for pontiac day, still have that little pesky no cage or roll bar issue!lol

I dont know how the hell this thing is leavin so straight, not twisting, and hookin with 1.37 60's with no cage or bar whatsoever!!But it is!

Gonna play with some e85 fuel as well even though i dont need it with 11.3 compression but im curious.
