Good description.
You nailed it, i'm worried that if i pull this apart i won't be able to get it working again. But, i can't tell if i Have to remove the lever pivot to get the broken end out, it looked to me that it was corroded/glued in, so the lever assembly needs to come out, this fine piece of work needs some kind of award: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...8&d=1281465188 looks like joe handyman tried to hone his automotive repair skills with a jigsaw... maybe i'll try poking it out, but i get the feeling that the pivot needs to come out... |

Well, here it is. Got the pivot out.
As suspected, it looks like the 'repair' approach was to: a) drill out the lever socket b) jam JB-Weld and broken lever back into socket. My mind is full of words that shouldn't be written, suffice it to say that i have a nomination for Moron Of The Year (MOY). The JB-Weld strategy was so effective that it flowed around the broken shaft end and prevents me pushing out the free end, can't even see where the shaft key lines up with the keyway. Maybe i can drill it out... :} So i guess i need to find a replacement assembly... any ideas ?? |

JP_79Formula.
Yep, that's a piece of work all right. The key way appears to be that square area at the top of the photo.

Go to your local u-pull-it yard and get another set-up...those are found on all GM cars and trucks of the same year...78-83...so for a few $$$, you will have it fixed.

The pivot assembly attachment is just a pin, slides out.
Problem is, there aren't many u-pull its down here... too many Lawyers! and most i have seen have 90's+ cars. I'll have to check. |
