My best daily driver was a 77 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham. Drove it for 20 years. Never had the transmission open. Never touched the carburetor. Other than normal maintenance items, the only part on the engine that was replaced was the water pump.
Sold it when I retired, It had 250,000 miles on it. The A/C had never been charged and still worked great

My '74 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Is very reliable (close to 500,000 miles). Has options to make it more comfortable -AC, power windows, tilt wheel, remote trunk, buckets, console, 4 spoke sport steering wheel. 350/th350/3.08 limited slip. Use it to tow a trailer I use for hauling things I would need a truck for. Rides better than any new car. Simple to maintain. Used my '66 Tempest Custom wagon for a daily driver until 1987 when I bought this from my Aunt (the original owner). Now drive the wagon on weekends. Restored the wagon in 1988, and beefed up the performance, don't like parking that one at work and having to worry about it. The Olds is nice enough to be a good driver, but not too nice that I worry about parking lot dings and other careless people.

Still have the original untouched lower end in my engine (Olds 350/4V) Had to replace some gaskets over the years but all the mechanicals are still intact. Run Marvel mystery oil in it. Had Transmission rebuilt once and a Trans go kit installed. Installed new bearing in rear end once, but original gears are still in there. Has 483,000 on it and still doesn't smoke, and has enough power to still break the tires loose for a little bit. Not an isolated event either. My brother had a car just like this some years ago and had about 275,000 on it when he sold it, and it still ran well.(Same engine- Olds 350).

MY last true great OLD dd was a 71 GT37 350 bench 4 speed...some black dude put an endura clip on it before i got it..it was soooo ruff...but it got 25 mpg, and i never had to work on it the whole time i had it..never..nothing....it was voodoo green( i think, cant remember was about 97) with a white interior...hate to say, i wish i had it back...it was ubelievibly peppy...i would torture it and race anything that blipped its throttle at me...

never failer to start..had 250,xxx (we guessed, it may have been 450 who knows) miles on it when i sold it and still had the original motor and trans as well as the 3.23 one legger..would puff jsut a little bit of smoke on start up and thats it..was a great car...

2003-2007 I had a 98 TA, put 69K miles on that car, and loved every minute of it...

my best dd was a 67 tempest 2 door post ohc 6, paid $300 and drove a it for few years got an average of 18 mpg and on a trip to oregon got 24 mpg at 70 mph. My current dd is my 68 tempest custom with a 400 and 4:10 gears, very reliable and fast and is always first to the gas station at 9 mpg lol

another vote for Roadmasters...my 94 has been thru hell and back, and just today was teaching a friend how to drive in it. Sadly, the body is getting pretty bad, so I may end up swapping the LT-1 into my '95 Suburban...now THAT will be a cool daily driver....

Ohhh what a question In the salt belt this is my "No Salt" daily list.

My 70 Le Mans Sport convert, 350 2 bbl 4 speed is a peach of a daily car (but just dropped a valve so the 72 TA is on semi daily duty nice days only..not a true daily car)
Before that was a 69 GP J HO 4sp with 48's swapped for 5C's
Before that was a 73 Ventura Sprint 350 2bbl 4 sp
Before that 77 GP SJ 400
Before that 70 GP 400 4sp (best Baltimore beltway blaster ever, put that big black pointy nose thing in the left lane and everyone moves out of your way)
Before that my now restored 69 SJ HO 4sp

Truely great daily cars. All of them. Had others not quite worth mentioning but I always had to drive something neat, without concern for gas mileage. WInter would require a 4x4 truck.

Forgot one above. 92 S-10 4.3 5 spd. 240k at the next service, have put very little money in it in the time I've owned it. Just got it back from the soon to be exwife and worked on gettiing it back in shape. ALWAYS starts and runs. Still has the OE clutch in it.

Probably the best car I ever owned was a '74 Camaro Type LT. Inline 6/auto with no console and a column shifter. Had A/C, but that was it. Great on gas and utterly bulletproof. Can't remember ever even raising the hood on that thing. Sold it to a friend who drove it every day for 3-4 years, I actually bought it back and drove it another couple myself. I'm betting it's still on the road, somewhere down in Alabama.

My favorite daily is a tie between the '62 Bonneville I have been piloting since '02 and the '62 Catalina I bought in '91 for $230 at a swap meet. Viva la DarkSide.

...slightly O/T but I have a couple of followup comments:
-to kevin k's first post here: I agree that it's too bad people don't have a fun car for daily purposes. You certainly don't need an expensive car to have it be FUN.

-to goatwgn's first post here: speaking as a salt-belt resident who wheels in a '62 year round, using an older car your daily driver makes sense (and CENTS, as in cheaper to repair, no car payment) and has STYLE. To me, STYLE = FUN.

Mine was a 1970 Charger R/T with 440. I used to drive that to work every day. One way was 8 miles. I used to fill that up 3 times a week, but in the late '80s gas was still cheap. I once got in a fender bender with a rice burner and my car had a quarter sized ding next to the bumper. The other car needed to be toed away on a flat bed.

The other was a '79 SE/TA I drove through college. The last valuable lesson I learned was it's probably a good idea to wear your seat belts when your upside down in a t-topped car. It got totaled, but I never missed a day of wearing seat belts since that incident.

My 2000 F-350 Super Crew 7.3 srw long bed. Ride is great, more comfortable in the driver's seat than on my couch!

98 Audi A4 Quatro 2.8 5spd was the weapon of choice in any weather condition. In the snow I could pass a plow truck, on dry pavement I could pass anything!

Driving these cars all the time and not letting them sit keeps a lot of corrosion off of them as well. Cleaning under cars with a pressure washer from time to time, especially after harsh road conditions helps even new cars last a lot longer.
