The problem we have with this hobby, is that there really isn't a good intake choice in a dual plane design that covers all applications.

I'm not sure what Edelbrock was thinking when they designed the RPM. It has several runners that are flow compromised by the design, it's too tall, and relocates the carburetor to a different position as well.

The Performer has tiny runners, so it's going to start becoming a restriction with higher HP applications. We saw a 15hp difference on the dyno on a pretty mild 455 we built here a few years ago between a Performer and my stock intake.

Even worse, we back to back tested a Torker 1 as well, and it was down over 50hp from my iron intake!

The reproduction HO intakes are OK, but they didn't clean up the basic design, the port miss-match is at least as bad as or even worse than the factory units.

The single plane intakes, like the Street Dominator, Torker II and Tomahawk, really need at least a 1" spacer to show their colors. We've had to add a spacer to every single one we've ever had on the dyno to get good number from them....FWIW.

Without a spacer they are even down further on power with spread bore carbs. I suspect the huge secondary throttle plates sticking deeper into the plenum causes distribution issues. I say this because anytime we've been down on power testing one with a q-jet, ALL the power comes right back when we add a 1" spacer to them.....Cliff

Heck my friends run this intake without any hood clearance issues..and it fits fine on the heads....you can run 10 second et with stock intakes without any mods..just ask the nhra stockers....

You must not do much shipping, eh?

Sumas is a big border crossing, and hence has quite a few drop boxes for those who do not wish to pay int;l shipping rates nor duties, PST's etc.

I was getting ready to post that also about shipping to SD Performance is not going to Canada. If you want to estimate the shipping the shipping address is 446 Harrison St Unit 81A, Sumas, Washington 98295.

My pump gas motor only has a 1/4-1/2 wedge spacer on a Torker II and seems to do OK And even fits the Shaker fine.

Dynoed it with the Holley manifold modifed by SD and it dynoed the same. The Tomahawk is supposed to be a direct copy of Dave's Holley modifications.

The biggest sticker on the Tomahawk like Cliff mentioned is when using a Q jet. If you look in the plenum the front runners roof is right under the primaries in the baseplate. The secondaries have a built in "spacer" and are raised up. The front runners with a Q jet just do not flow what the rear ones will without a spacer as the air can not make that sharp turn without a spacer and maybe some of the butterflies hanging down. But it is the front runners that are the problem. Not as big a deal with a Holley as the primaries are further back dumping more in the middle of the plenum.

Here are some pictures of the Tomahawk secondary and primary. One on the left is the secondaries. Those ports are also closer to teh same size #1 and #2 are not as big as #3,4 and not enough meat to port them the same.

Dave Sober here (Torquejunki) has had good luck with a Holley on his Tomahawk to fit under a flat hood.

It just all depends what your combination is and what you want the motor to look like-stock stealth or aftgermarkey. Heck the circle track iron intake class guys pay big money to Brezenski to cut the intake open -port it and weld it back together to look stock iron

"You must not do much shipping, eh?"

+2

There are higher rates involved with shipments to Canada, brokerage fees, Customs requirements, etc, etc.

USPS will have the best rates to Canada, and no brokerage fees, but they are also the most unreliable of the bunch......Cliff

Skip, I've dyno and drag strip tested the Tomahawk.

On the dyno have swapped back and forth between a q-jet and 850 Holley DP, with and without spacers, etc.

Did the same swap at the track during the Shootout at Norwalk a few years back.

Made runs with my Q-jet, with and without a spacer, and my Holley 850 with and without a spacer. It ran faster with both carbs when a 1" spacer was used.

The dyno told us the same thing, although it made considerably LESS power with the q-jet on it without a spacer compared to the Holley 850, probably related to what you mentioned in your post.

With a spacer they pulls were virtually the same. So at least from the testing we've done, it likes a 1" spacer.

Tests with the Torker II show the same trend, at least a 1" spacer is needed to get the most out of them.......Cliff
