And that is to my point. Advertised as 3.55 car with a stick. Seems like an obvious piece of rock candy for sale/ everyone thinks they know what diamonds look like so they pass it by. One guy didn't think he knew everything through his crystal ball, and he drinks champagne.

I will say it again- the generation before us was very mechanically inclined to do motor/tranny/ rear end swaps. They were even crafty enough to swap tags using an electric drill and rivet kit. This monkey business was very prevalent in a time when these cars were treated as whores to be had fun with on Friday night and not fancy ladies as we see them now. This was not done to fool people at Barrett Jackson but at the red light on Main, mostly. Cars got wrecked and pole-wrapped and motors got passed around faster than a bottle of whiskey at a July 4th bon fire. We never know, and if we don't have the luxury to drive and see in person like most of us do not these days when buying- we cannot be certain to have too much 'intel' in our hands as possible.

My Ford collector buddy has a stable of low miles/ original paint survivor Stangs and Fords going back to the early 30s models. Even the lowliest 289 coupe or Falcon he buys has a Mardi report before he lays down the cash.

Usually it is the Federal Government who makes all the decisions without having all the facts- we should be smarter than that!

The PHS question was raised in Gto opinion to buy. I stated that a PHS wasnt gonna stop me from buying a automatic Brown, base motor low option 69 GTO conv. My thoughts were nobody would fake that combo {242 was dealer certified by very reputable dealer} Its not like someone was claiming a high horsepower rare color 4 speed GTo in this case. Toms car will cost alot of money to restore, but will be worth much much more when done. The car deserves a restortion, but who knows, maybe Tom will "flip it " as is.

Not flipping her...going to let the dust settle and bring it back...slowly ! Just looked at radiator and it still has original PA, with a couple radiator hose tower clamps around at 83K miles.

Maybe it's me, but I think a '69 Judge ragtop would be worth more. I guess it all depends on what you think the Judge is worth, or a RAIV GTO ragtop for that matter. 150k sounds too rich for my tastes.

I agree, a 68 RA I GTO is not even in the same league as a 69 -70 RA III GTO let alone a RAIV.

Sometimes my notes are cryptic even to me, so may not be completely accurate, but I have a triple black RAI, 4sp selling for $119K. It was on eBay in 2011 but must not have sold at that time. All I have on it is numbers matching, really nice older restoration. Appears to be driven some after restoration.

Black is usually the top selling color these days, but red is still strong. Similar restoration to the black one with correct but not matching numbers - my guess: $90's.

Do not know who bought it, but that is the car.
It had white walls and a passenger side mirror which kind of stick out.

Rich, that's not what I was saying - I said RAIII Judge ragtop.

The 1968 RA was a true hi-po motor not available with AC due to the gearing. The RAIII could be made docile with cruising gears and AC. It's the '67 motor in the '68 body, so we could expect high-13s stock. The RAIII simply is not in the same league to me, all things being equal.
