I saw a story on the news the other day that blames the higher price of ethanol for the rise in gas prices. Originally ethanol was added because it was cheaper than 100% gasoline, but now it's almost as expensive. The price of refined gasoline has been pretty flat, but ethanol has jumped up to $3/gal in the last few weeks. Who knows if that's really the reason, but it does make some sense.

Default Pipelines

I just met with Enbridge and Trans-Canada officials about their 2 pipelines that run through a property I acquired a couple of years ago. Seems they want to do some repair and inspection activity on the both pipes. They offered me 1000 bucks each for access to the property and based on the affected area I will receive about 5 grand from each and they will repair any damage and pay me for the soybeans they destroy. Kinda like pennies from heaven. They also said they were contemplating putting in another 48" pipe and the compensation from it would be big. As for gas prices I too am not too impressed with the pricing scheme but what can we do. Ed

For the guys that have Crew Cab trucks it must really suck. Gas prices are the only reason I have never owned a full size pickup.

I have a diesel dually and use it AS a truck so it only gets driven when needed and once a week to work just to keep it lubed and charged up. Gas is well over $4.00 a gallon here now.

What is your Diesel price per gallon? IIRC it was nearly 1/2 dollar more than gas here...at or near $4.00 per for Diesel vs Gas at or near $3.42.

Default Interesting OPEC pricing read

OPEC crude oil production output falls in March

"The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) decreased it's crude oil production from 30.11 barrels per day in February 2014 to 29.65 million b/d in March, according to Platts.

This number of barrels per day is the lowest OPEC has produced since mid-2011, Platts reported The total drop was 550,000 b/d and three countries - Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Libya - account for 440,000 barrels of the decrease.

Some of the decline has been attributed to insurgent attacks in Iraq, which closed one of the country's important pipelines, according to Platts. Prior to March, Iraq's crude oil output had increased because of improvements in exporting capabilities. However, difficulties such as insurgent attacks will likely make the country's output inconsistent.

Saudi Arabia has a reduced output because of maintenance. Saudi output in February was 9.7 million b/d and was 9.6 million b/d in March, Platts reported. The output in March was the lowest Saudi Arabia has contributed since June 2013.

Libyan crude oil output came to a halt in 2011, but has slowly recovered. Current output has been affected by political unrest, strikes, protests and blocked ports.

More information on OPEC can be found at PennEnergy's Research Center.

It go's down a few cents at a time every day or 2 till it stops at about 3.65. After there for 1-2 days it jumps to 3.89.
Then starts over.

Why is it 3.49 at the Red Oak Racetrac, Wal Mart, Valero, and 2 Exxons but 3.59 just 5 miles down the road at the Waxahachie Racetrac, Wal Mart, Valero, and Shell? 10 cents a gallon times how-ever-many gallons they sell is a lot of money. And then another week it can be the other way around.

Costco and Sam's Club are $3.81 here, while Mobil and BP, right across the street, are $4.19.

Price variances of 10% per station have always happened, but back in 2008, when gas was $1.80 a gallon, if you paid a 10% more ($1.98), meant you'd be paying an additional $3.60 for a 20-gallon fill up.

With today's prices, a 10% variance of paying $4.19 (verses $3.81) means an additional $7.62 with a fill up.

It's all relative, but back in 2008, an extra $3.60 saved at the pump would have bought a Big Mac Value Meal. In 2014, an extra $7.62 would buy you nearly two Big Mac Value meals.

We import less oil now, and we produce more oil in America, yet prices are more than double what they were in 2008.

Something tells me that certain folks want us driving electric cars, or at least pony up the bucks to buy a new fuel efficient car, to boost the automakers profits.

In 2013, Exxon posted its second highest annual profit in history. They a NET income of $44.8 BILLION, while spending $12 million on lobbyists to keep their tax rates low. They received an estimated $600 million in tax breaks in 2013.

My year old 5.3 V8 extended cab 4X4 GMC gets better mileage than the vehicle it replaced, which was a '99 regular Jeep Cherokee 4x4 with the thirsty, but bulletproof 4.0 litre 6. 190 HP and 3500 lbs versus 340 HP and 5700 lbs.

since the current occupant in the white house came to "power" and the unemployment rate went to around a "real" number of 20% of unemployed FULL time career jobs, the consumption of gas in the US has dropped at the same 20% since 2009.....

In 2009, new energy policies have been pushed through, along with massive spending on "green" energy.

Between Jan 2009 - April 2014

1) U.S Crude Oil Production UP 62%

2) Petroleum imports DOWN 52%

3) Regular gas prices UP 95%

If unrest in the Middle East, or Ukraine, make prices fluctuate, then why are gas prices at $4.00 a gallon when we produce MORE oil in America, and import LESS?
It has nothing to do with that. It is what people who trade the RBOB futures are willing to pay for the front month contracts that determine gas prices. The trade is more and more based on Brent Crude prices which are higher b/c of the unrest off US shores. WTI prices are somewhat lower, but no longer the benchmark.

Saudis, who basically set OPEC production, have a ton of social programs and the like to pay for. That is why they have cut production. They may blame it on maintenance etc., but they are trying to avert social unrest by attempting to keep the Brent price above $100/bbl so they can continue to fund all of these programs and keep people from getting hungry and angry. It is also possible that they are running lower on supply as the Gwahair and other super giant fields may be playing out. Nobody knows, including them. Read Twilight in the Desert to learn more about what the real deal is with Saudi Aramco and the totally unknown nature of the contents of the oil fields they control.

US is now if not the #1, in the top 3 EXPORTERS of refined diesel. If you want to pay less, contact your government representatives and let them know you want an energy policy that limits the export of refined products and natural gas. We do not have an energy policy at this time. It is a national security issue and FOR THE CHILDREN.
