The RAIV GTO in Mike's video was in fact Limelight Green. Sorry, I was wrong about the color of that car, thought it was Verdoro... so I'm not sure if it'd be the same car as the one at Barrett Jackson - it did have identical drivetrain specs though, and hailed from Canada.... what are the odds?

I bet odds are better in Canada for Hi PO Pontiacs. Lots of RA IVs there.

4:33 gears don't seem to be ideal as that motor would wind up too fast as experienced by the first motor that sploded.

honestly...the 4.33s were NEVER meant to work with biasd-ply Redline tires...but were for factory race guys who would be bolting on taller racing tires...typically slicks. Milt Schornack was the "go-to" guy...or liason between Pontiac and the more successful racers who were lucky enough to get a factory backed car. Usually radio delete, no sound deadening and such.Chuck Henley's V car started life as one of these IVs. Anyway...he told me personally that the factory emphatically wanted that option omitted BECAUSE of all the warranty work it was costing them. It was,in fact, the inadequate oiling systems that fell short on these high-revving RA IV motors. Virtually ALL suffered bottom end failures at the crankshaft. High rpm issues tend to manifest themselves in the top end...dropped valves, broken springs or rockers and such. BTW...is this Bruno's old car are were all the Canadian RA IV '69s Verdoro?

just saw this post....that was Bruno. He bought my enclosed trailer a and I received a ticket with a picture of my trailer crossing a bridge in Canada...still had my tags. I delivered it to Detroit. He's good people...had his son's Carousel Red '69 Firebird at Xenia during the last C-Vention. He also had a RA IV T/A. This goat kicked lots of ass as I recall...BBC and Mopar guys HATED it! Those guys are BIG into F.A.S.T. and PSMCDR. They guarded our Matador/red RA-IV car at their host hotel in Michigan because our motel was on The Reservation...where there is no "white man's law"...just the FBI. Probably saved our car...but once again...I digress. BTW...he DID pay the ticket!

NOBODY trusted a $35 factory option! First thing a serious car got was a Sun/SW tach and some SW guages...typically. That is why "day-two" restorations are gaining in popularity....representing what the cars would look like AFTER you got them home from the dealership. Wheels, tires, guages, headers and typically a much rougher cam than the OE unit. Factory guages were most likely ordered by dealers or non-racers. Hot rodders knew the score. I have had MANY SS Chevelles...NONE of which had guage packages...but none had power steering or brakes either. I have actually had "afficionados" tell me that they weren't TRUE SS cars because they didn't have the guages. Ignorance abounds.
