Not a facebook user either. I will poke around with my wife's page now and again. I am a Pontiac guy, Pontiac info is here. So are many very knowledgeable people. This works great for my needs and interests. Thank you for the forum.

X2, lol, have in the past quickly scanned a few FB Pontiac sites on wife's FB when we were roadtripping & wife was driving. Just don't have time for the nonsense that FB brings. Also do my best not to use Google. Longtime held belief here is Google & Facebook are both beyond evil. Thank You Chris for continuing to provide the best Pontiac site on the Net!

This is why I bailed on Facebook...coming up on 1 year now. Too much hate, lies, disinformation, name-calling, slandering, insults, etc. What was briefly fun turned into a garbage bin for me, so I quit.

Still love PY after all these years!

Yeah I “unfollow” lots of people. I don’t mind people speaking their mind now and again but if daily all you post is negativity in whatever form, even good friends get unfollowed. That and new mothers. One baby picture? Okay. But they never stop at one lol.

But the Pontiac Midwest Group is cool. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen several members from here on there. I like Marketplace more and more.

I have a Facebook account, but rarely use it.
People talk on this site. Facebook is flash and blurbs. Maybe both have their merits, but when I need advice, I'll take it in long form.
Funny thing is, both of my kids (actually 23 and 25), told me just recently that they don't do Facebook anymore. My son said it's boring and my daughter said it's greasy.

Another thing that turned me off from Facebook is all the advertising. It seemed that half of my feed was ads. If I looked at something on eBay, it would appear in my feed over an over again as if they were forcing me to buy it.

I wouldn't use FB, or the others, if they paid me to. It's trouble with a big T just waiting to happen.

Don't keep us in suspense, what's this merge? Could it be The Ultimate GTO website? I heard it's having a bit of a problem.

FB is absolutely great for this hobby, but like any other thing in life, it has it's correct place in the tool box.

I'm with all of these folks also. My apologies for not using PY as much as I used to, but my building (?), fabricating (?), etc. have been tapering off due to age (mine).

Your points are well taken, Chris. If this hobby is to continue, we all need to add our expertise(s) in one place. Maybe you Facebook users could politely explain to FB folks who seem to have an interest in our "addiction." After all, this forum, IMHO, has some of the top expertise in Pontiacs of any place on the web.

As an added shot at FB and other social media sites/apps ... I heard it said that users of such sites are no longer "customers", they are now the "product." FWIW. I don't anticipate becoming a "product" of PY.

I look forward to your new endeavor, Chris.

I am on Facebook and our GTO Club (Greater Pittsburgh) has a Facebook page and is on Twitter. I am subscribed to a few Pontiac-related Facebook groups. That said, there's a lot not to like about Facebook as it relates to the Pontiac hobby.

Facebook is a TERRIBLE repository for data and the search capabilities are horrible, whether you're searching for people, events, posts or other information. I believe that is deliberate - Facebook is all about maximizing traffic volume, no concerns about redundancy or asking the same questions someone asked a week ago, or posting to multiple groups. Information vanishes without explanation. The whole structure for displaying content plays into it. Display "top stories" or "most recent"? View more replies, no simple way to "expand all" or anything like that, clicks to expand, clumsy scrolling, all by design.

Facebook does have generally better "multimedia" capabilities, aside from the terrible elements described above, so it would be nice to see some of that incorporated into this forum. There's some room for improvement in search capabilities here too, but this is without question the "go-to" location for Pontiac information. I'm also on the GTO forum but I'm here much more often. The issue here would be attempts to monetize this forum beyond the advertisements and the connections to sponsors and Ames. I sometimes buy from Ames even for items I could find cheaper elsewhere (shipping's a killer) just to support this forum, which I've been on since 2000.

I was looking for the "LIKE" button for your thread!

FB has it's place but this place is the best all around.

I'm going to try to get back here more often.

Got Facebook, but never liked it.
FB is like some sort of obligation to be on, for others, but i don't like the perishible nature of the "toilet roll" of posts.
Twitter seems like the extreme "toilet roll" of perishible posts.

PY is topical, so PY is a useful go-to, for latest techniue and accomplishments.

I go to FB, and many of the Pontiac forums, everyday. I also Google for quick info.

I've got some good & bad info from every online source, including PY.

So, I'll continue to use all info sources.

Like one of my favorite preachers says: "Have as much sense as an old horse. Eat the hay and spit out the sticks. "

Some mentioned cell phones. We don't have one. We have a land line, with the same phone number we've had since 1978.

I'm sometimes amused by cell phone users. Many of 'em can't do ANYTHING without being on the phone. I've been in Wal-Mart & hear someone close to me say something, thinking they're talking to me, only to find they are talking on the phone & not to me at all.

I was recently eating at the local all-you-can-eat buffet. A full grown workin man filled his plate & sat down at the table next to mine. Before eating, he whipped out his cell phone & began using it with his right hand, as he began eating with his left hand. He had obviously had lots of experience doing it, because he never missed a beat.

Hear about the latest FaceBook patent application? Technology to broadcast a high frequency signal through your television that will turn on the mic in your smart phone. The mic will listen to voices and algorithms will determine if people are watching the show, in the room, not paying attention etc. and give the feedback info for viewership to ad companies, networks etc.

I come to PY to do two very pleasant things:
• find or share useful Pontiac info
• hang out with gentlemen

Honestly, I hear a lot of talk about community in various places but on the PY forums you actually feel it

Chris, I couldn't agree more. FB has its positive and negative aspects. It is a potential place to find cars and parts occasionally but this forum is a far superior place to find factual information. The PY forum is a terrific repository of knowledge and experience in the Pontiac world. Thank you for creating and maintaining this forum. It is my go-to for most things Pontiac related.

That being said, is it possible to improve the multi-media capabilities of the forum? That is one place that social media shines. Someone in an earlier post hinted that some of us are getting older (you and I shared swap spaces in the early/mid 80's at Carlisle) and what appeals to us may not appeal to the next generation of Pontiac enthusiasts. I think finding a way to change some of the "presentation" with more pictures, video and other active content might help broaden the appeal. I personally would like to be able to post pictures and video easily as well as have them appear in the post "full size" or at least not in the thumbnail size that most pictures show up currently.

Thanks and keep up the great work you have been doing for so long!
