I am struggling a bit on the 2.5" vs 3" exhausts. The Pypes literature indicates the 2.5" transverse muffler system can support 600hp, I find this optimistic but have nothing to base it on as I have no idea what that exhauist and muffler can flow from a CFM aspect. I dont think many/any 2.5" systems would support 600hp.
Is there a CFM rating on the Pypes 2.5" transverse race pro muffler system? Isnt around 1000 CFM necessary for 500hp? |

I've never seen flow numbers for the Race Pro but they have a nearly identical design to Dynomax Ultraflows. I would be fairly comfortable
HP they support seems to be various claims so not sure what to believe is a limit or where it begins to be a problem. For 99% of street cars I can't even see that being an issue. What I've seen though is good enough for me. There are Pure Stock racers running into the 12's and even 11 second zone with this system, and F.A.S.T. guys in the 10's. I've gone bottom 13's without trying hard with my own stock 400 in not so great weather conditions (12's corrected). In the future I'll likely build a stroker sleeper engine for this car that should push be in the 600hp range, but the same exhaust system will remain. I'm not worried about it. |

Quick and Dirty Exhaust System Math
http://www.exhaustvideos.com/faq/how...pipe-diameter/ Probably a moot point if Dynomax claims the unrestricted, straight-through design dyno proven to flow up to 2,000 SCFM and support up to 2,000 horsepower. This regarding the UltraFlow welded if one were interested. .

Yep, so many straight through designs that claim big flow I don't know if you can really discern one from the other as far as which would be better. It probably becomes more of a decision of sound quality and which one you like the best.

I think if you wanted to get the absolute most you could out of system like the Pypes transverse you could run 3" from the headers to an X then to reducers right where the pipes turn to go up over the axles.
Formulajones - thanks for all the links upthread. Particularly liked the vid of your car running at the track. Does your exhaust have an X in it? I missed that if you mentioned the type of crossover.

You're welcome Will. Yes it has an X cross over in it.
