Yep. Beautiful work, but slow.

Did the eagle land in Tennessee today?

BTW - I meant to post when I was traveling on your trunk pan and other body work. Beautiful. You deserve a vacation.

One rear quarter and the roof remaining.....

I worked the evening shift in the Hot Rod Garage tonight and got the left rear quarter all buffed and polished out. The first coat of paint sealant is drying and I'll try to get the second coat applied before work in the morning. I continue to get more experienced and better at this gig. This panel came out better than any other. If you had seen the car before it would be hard to believe that this is totally eradicating the acid rain etching. Other than a few defects that are too deep to sand out, the paint looks like new. Hard to believe it was applied 29 years ago. Especially being black.

That's going to save you a fortune in a repaint!

Can you post contact info for Joe Vigil, if that is who is being revered to as the person that restored your radio. Also what products did you use to buff out the rocker molding? I have not looked at your thread in a while, the work you have done is amazing! first rate job...congrats!! You need to write a restoration guide full of how to tips for these cars.

Thanks Charles. I just wish work would quit getting in the way...What will really be amazing is if I can get the Black Car off of the lift and into the sunshine this weekend. Zero% chance of rain here on Sunday, so I have big plans. The right quarter won't be too bad, but I was looking at the roof this morning and it looks like a moonscape. Lots of sanding there...

Here's the web link for Joe. The contact tab has a cell number and email address. I'll dig up the polishes I used on the rocker molding and post something this evening when I am back in the garage.

Down to the roof, and that won't be fun. I think I am going to start with 1500 grit instead of 2000. I finished the right rear quarter tonight and it looks nice. MPD is coming over at 8:00 in the morning and I hope to get the roof sanded before he rolls into the Hot Rod Garage. He's going to work on getting the dash and console pieced back together while I work on the buffing. It is hard to believe that it has been exactly 2 months since the interior started to come out of this beast. A lot has gotten done in there. Shoulder belts, headliner, heater controls, radio, kick panels, gauge lens, door handles, ignition and door locks, new a/c vent in glove box, rear console (ah-hem), refurbished e-brake mechanism, refurbished right side duct, new dash bulbs, lube speedo cable, new visor mirror, new dome light, .....Here's some pictures.

That really does look fanastic!

I really like the woodgrain dash insert used on the 70-72's, with the great psudo-wood, and tiny gauge surrounds, what's not to like!?

So I was worried about the roof and with good reason. - wow. I dropped all the way down to 1000 grit, then 1500, then two passes with 2000 grit, then 3000, and finally 5000. I almost got all the acid rain etching, but not all of it. I really wanted to go back and sand some more, but I was afraid of pushing my luck. It looked so damn good, despite the remaining flaws, and I had sanded so aggressively, I was afraid that the last 5% of perfection would cost me a big sand through blow out. The right side was worse than the left. Seemed like it must have been in a carport with the right exposed and away from the house. Here's the before and post sanding photos.

....and here the after pictures. I am very happy. Everything is done and the car is back on the road. The interior is reassembled, and the wet sanding and buffing is all done. It's not a total transformation, but the difference is pretty incredible. It looks so good I am almost afraid to drive it. Not...
