On my 73 SDTA, NEITHER side mirror has any writing on it. As far as I know, both are original to the car. Built in Norwood, OH, 8/73 and sold new in Burbank, California.

The police car was Z28. On a desolate stretch of Arizona highway, the speed limit was 55MPH!!!! Guess I'm like Sammy Hager, "I can't drive 55".
BTW, I've driven the SD to the big car show in Iola during the summer (photos below), since my cousin lives about 20 miles from Iola. There were people who just couldn't believe I DROVE it there! Lately I've been very apprehensive about driving it any long distance. I came thisclose to being rear ended on the way to the TA Nationals due to someone in an '87 or '88 Crown Victoria not paying attention in a construction zone.
Another time I got pulled over locally b/c I had the old California plates on it. The WHOLE police dept. was there checking out the car. He did let me slide on that one since it was registered. Stories, stories............

Way to go! I've driven mine with my brother-in-law to Iola. It was about 2-1/2 hour drive but an awesome day and drive. I know what you mean about being worried about a hit by some other drivers but you have to have fun otherwise why own them.

Hope to met up with you and that car some where this 2008 summer.
Cool pictures,
Brewster

Don't have a '73 but my unrestored '74 SD does not have anything on the mirrors. My '74 Z28 also has nothing and I'm absolutely sure it is original. I don't think the wide angle mirrors were used before '78 or '79.

Brew - yeah, "you have to have fun otherwise why own them", right.......driven that 4-speed anywhere except to and from the trailer yet? You know I'm just messing with you!

Axle is out and a new one is being quoted so I'll have that done. The new window sweeps (nos are in route-ho-ho-ho) to be stapled instead of rivets, and thinking of changing my hood latch to a nos one I have from that replanted all one color unit that is on the car.
Spruce her up a bit for the poci in Spearfish, then the Nat's, and finally the Uprising?
Hope to drive Tipp City if it doesnt rain???????????????? and Sean party parade through St Charles.

Hey Chuck,

Went and checked my mirrors and like I thought there is writing on both of them.
In the middle upper center of the glass has on the Driver Side 12-DMI-2 and the Passenger Side 2-DMI-3.
Now I checked very well and the right side does not have a one before the two? and the letters and numbers a quit visible.

I hope this answers your question,
Brewster

I wonder if that Heat Shroud is one of the repros? He doesn't specifically say it's not. It does look like my repro to. They are very nice.

Ok guys, the time is getting near... Are we going to see any Super Duty's on this years show? I once again see a poor showing on the BJ website. Will somebody please see what their SD will get on the show... Let's say on the Friday, or Saturday time-frame? I can see BJ putting a mint, original 4-speed SD on the Tuesday afternoon, non-televised portion of the program. The question is, who wants to sacrifice their Super Duty this year to see how it effects the market.

heh! I Was going to start a poll (no peeking at the BJ catalog) as to how many we'll see at this year's scottsdale. i say 2 '73 t/as, 1 '74 ta and one formula, either year.
