Well, here it is up again. This time with an explanation as to why a 1980 Trans Am is 75k.

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/2656507193.html

Original everything.....26,000 original miles....that's right !!!

Color: Maroon
Interior: Maroon
Cylinder: 8cl
Transmission: Automatic
Engine: 4.9
Power window's, door locks, steering,
Original radio with 8 track
Decals and Eagle: All original
Clean Title
Never had an accident

75,000.00 or best offer.......

Please don't call and harrass me. I didn't keep this car in MINTcondition for 31 years to have people ask why it's so expensive.
Call Mecum Auto Auctions and ask them.

I don't remember 8-tracks in the 79-81 'Birds. Cassette player in the radio yes. IMO, no matter how 'original' or low miles it is, it's not worth 75K.

I have a feeling his best offer will either be to take $20k for it or keep it for another 30 years.

20k might be high. 15k maybe. 301 bird, not that special.

I saw that too, Bob. While it did look like a very nice car- you're right- it's just not that special, and no way near 75k. I think the $20k estimate is close, probably even a little low. I follow the auction sales numbers of 2ng gen cars pretty religiously. The unrestored original condition, low mileage cars (of any kind) seem to bring more lately.

Sad thing is, if it was black/gold with t-tops, it'd do $30k+ easy, 301 or no, the buying public has already spoken on that..

Mecum? Why? Why do they care about his car and asking price if it's not there?

He doesn't want to be harassed about his own car but it's ok to call Mecum and harass them about a car they've never seen. ....Ooo-kay...

Why do so many people think that since a car "like" their's went through BJ or Mecums that their car is worth what some drunk lush on a televised show paid for a concours restoration?

I imagine it's an Olds Toronado FWD setup.

I thought that car looked familiar when I first saw it and now I'm convinced that I know it. Unless it has a twin, it was bought and given to a younger lady when new. It was her 'weekend' and 'show' car. I remember her showing it in the early and mid 80's. She kept exceptional care of it. It is a beautiful car and if it the miles are true and it has been stored properly I would venture to say it is one of the best it the country. All that being said, of course it is not worth 75k! I have no idea of what it is really worth. As others have posted, I too am sure the 301 really hurts it. I would say the current owner is fishing for a good offer. Surely they don't think anyone is crazy enough to pay anywhere near close to 75k!

I must truly be getting old. I wouldn't consider owning a car like that anymore. I'm not mature enough to respect it.

I just can't see anything over 15k for that car in todays market. I have seen to many 79 TATA's sitting and not selling at 21k with less miles on them. Heck, there are a couple here on PY. Then you have Alvins awesome 79 Formula with 16k miles, 400 4sp, WS6 sitting at 25k. Boss 79 301 4sp with only 43k miles is sitting and it looks like he can't get 10k for it. I just don't believe an 81 Trans Am with a 301 and 31k miles on it, no matter how nice it is, in todays market will bring anything over 15k. I actually believe he would be lucky to get over 10k.
