Saw in our newspaper here just a few days ago a story about one of those TV American auction companies where a fellow bought a storage unit contents for $700 and he found a safe inside containing TEN MILLION dollars. The original owners offered him about $850K for the safe back but he settled for $1.3M.

Everyone was a winner with that one.

If that's true, that's utterly ridiculous! The owners of that safe were complete idiots. They had enough money to pay the storage fees for the next century but couldn't do it?

I don't think I'd have been that generous with them. Stupidity is it's own reward.

My wife told me that story a couple of days ago except it was $7.5M. The only thing we could figure out is that some old codger left the storage unit to someone that didn't care what was in it until they found out what they let go.
I also don't understand why the buyer of the storage contents had to share ANY of it with the losers.

Your wife is probably right Greg in that I presume our local newspapers would have converted the US$ value into Aust$. Seeing we are running around $0.72 to the US$, your $7.5M will convert roughly to A$10M. And the final figure I quoted of A$1.3M will convert back (roughly) to US$1M.

Is the story really true??? Who knows but I sort of suspect it probably is.

Ian

I did find some news coverage of it just a little while ago. The only thing suspicious about it is that there is a connection to the TV show, 'Storage Wars'. Apparently the auctioneer on that show is the one who performed the auction, however, this incident is not apparently directly connected to the show.

The story reeks of BS from top to bottom, I'm quite sure it's fake as hell. Just more publicity for a "reality" TV show

Yes, some people can't leave well enough alone. In my mind the car is worth way less with the conversion, but someone else might drool over it. It looks great from the outside, though.

Maybe it's the only one that's powder blue with a painted white top that's equipped that way, lol.
That's a color that I'm not sure I've ever seen on a '64. one of those colors that looks great all buffed to a shine but is an eye sore when it dulls down.

It is pretty heavily optioned car but I agree there's no way to tell if it's the only one built that way. The color is unusual, it looks like Skyline Blue but I can't tell for sure; it's possible it was a special order color, which would make it very unusual.
