Boy,time is flying by! I just made my Sunday post yesterday and here it is Sunday again!
I had a time with the wiper motor installation. I got my screws from Bob so I was ready to install the motor. I put it in the hole and started the top screw, then I started the bottom screw towards the passenger side. Next, I started the bottom screw on the driver's side but it just slid all the way in. Well, I removed the other two screws and took the motor back out. Then I tried the bottom screw again and it slid all the way through the nut! The dadgum nut that is welded to the backside of the firewall was stripped out! Now what do I do? I had a brain fart and decided to put the motor in using just the two screws but when I picked the motor up I noticed that the ground strap was under the mounting grommet with the stripped nut!!
I put the motor back in with the two screws loosely threaded in. Then I took a nut that fit the third screw and tried to get it down into the cowl where I could run the third screw into it. It took some doing and I chewed my wrist up but I finally got the nut and screw started. I got all three tightened down, hooked up the wiring then hooked up the wiper switch to the harness hanging under the dash. Then I turned the key to the start position and turned the wiper switch on. NOTHING!! I sat there for a minute and it came to me that the switch might need to be grounded so I got a jumper wire and hooked it to the switch body and the frame. I had wipers!! almost. They made a half turn and quit. Now what!? I looked at the motor and noticed the arm was lodged against the cowl. Then, I remembered that when I bought this motor it had a tag on it saying it was fom a Chevy truck. I went to my old parts bin, dug out the bad motor and took the arm off of it, swapped it with the arm on the new motor and everything worked!
Now, I have to remove the motor to install a seal but first I am going to pick up a 1/4" drive swivel to make it easier to get that bottom nut back on.
So that is the story of why I put in 4 hours insatlling a wiper motor. I will update hours and other totals next week.
If I have a day or two I need to replace the passenger side rear quarter glass. Now what could possibly go wrong there!

Why don't you get a helicoil and fix in that way?

Phil, I had that problem with mine, the welded on nut inside the cowl was stripped. I used another nut on the inside with a slightly different and longer bolt. Worked fine.... just don't look at the bolt head..... and paint them all black so it doesn't show. LOL

I was able to use the same screw. It went through the the stripped nut far enough to get another nut on the back side. When I take the motor out again I may try to grind the old stripped nut down to make it a little thinner. I reckon I should rebuild the pump while it is out just to be safe.

one more thing to check, make sure the arm on the motor is in the correct position. I had mine 180 degrees out so my wipers were parking in the UP position. Just a FYI heads up

Thanks for the tip. In the parked position which way should the arm be pointing?

to the left side of the car, towards the driver fender - had to go look.

I'll have to check mine but I think it is pointing toward the driver's side but down. If it was the hand on a clock and 9 was the driver's side mine would be in about the 7 o'clock position.

The motor may not be in the park position then. you may have to run the motor to get it in park. mine is at 9 o'clock + or - a few minutes

LOL.... you too? I did that myself. At least it's one way to learn.... trial and error.

I got mine right by having the wipers in the park position and then moved the motor arm so it could be hooked up. Still gotta get that clip out of the cowl vent. I'm lucky I had a spare. Think rags to plug the places it might fall into. A magnet is handy too.

Hey Y'all,
I have not had time to even get in the shop this past week. I picked up a side job with my old boss that I am working from 8am to 12:30. Than I change shirts and go to my otother job from 1pm to 6:30.
I will be ordering some parts vendors and a fellow PYer shortly. So, it looks like I can turn the burner up a notch!

Work is a good thing right now.
Your hours sound kinda like mine now....Except my start time is 4 hours earlier and my quitting time is 3 hours later. I do get a two hour break in the middle though...and oh yeah, my second job doesn't pay anything...lol

I had a minute this morning to check out my wiper arm location. It does not point down as far as I thought. I ran it several times and each time it parked in the position shown.

Nothing new to report this week. I worked two jobs last week plus 8-2 yesterday. I have to get my income taxes filled out tomorrow and hopefully I will get some good news.
My well died Friday night but it was only the control box that had to be replaced so I feel like I dodged a bullet there.
I am also thnking about going with a black interior instead of the dark aqua the car came with.
Well, Mama just called me to supper so I'll get off of here for now. Y'all have a good one.

So many cars go to black or parchment (white). I really enjoy seeing the colors of the 60's for the interiors. Just remember anyone could have a black or white, you could have a colorful interior. JMHO

I know I'm being wishy-washy! It would simplify things putting the interior back together(when I actually get to that point). My dash pad is black as is the console. How hard would it be to change the color on them?

Not tough at all with a a couple cans of dye!I thought my dash turned out pretty good.

How will the dye work if I am going from the black dash pad to an aqua color? Won't I have to use a light colored primer first?
I have tried dyeing things in the past and never could get a lighter color to look right going over a darker color.
