Just curious: Does anyone know what the material is that covered the outside? I also have an original for my Formula. Almost seems like a felt type material

That is what I was referring to Alvin. just wonder if anyone knows what the actual material is? it almost appears to a a thinner variation of the underhood liner applied over plastic...

I'm guessing that's an 70-80's mullet. I had one in 1983, but it was much shorter on the top & probably half as long in the back. Never smoked though.....

Some interesting underhood details on this 7 mile TATA car that sold at BJ for a gazillion bucks. Note the red, white and blue vinyl tape on the vacuum lines, the routing and that the right side wiring harness is wire tied to one of the AC lines, and where the ground is connected on the AC bracket. Doesn't look like the bracket on the vapor canister hard line is attached to the water neck bolt though. It would be nice to have a few more pictures. Too bad the car was stored in a barn, could look better for 7 miles, but cool nonetheless. I have a few tweaks to make.

There is a thread here in the recent archives where a member posted a bunch of pictures from a TA/TA that was still on a showroom floor at a dealer. I thought there where a few engine pictures, but I am not certain how detailed they are.

So, based on the pictures that Mike Noun and I believe it is Carl (68Ragtop) were kind enough to post we made a few changes to the Gold Car's wiring today to get it closer to assembly line correct. The main harness on the right side of the engine was rerouted, the ground was moved, and the bolt the ground attaches was switched 180 degrees. It looks really cool. I love this car, and love being in the garage... Also, I found a correct 2nd Gen/2nd Gen "sort of hairy" hose and we did some tweaking on the air cleaner intake side. I'll have another post on the whole hose thing, but I think there was a three step transition - hairy, sort of hairy, and vinyl. Probably a good story here for Mr. Noun. Here's some pictures.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting all the pics and explanations about your work. I have been working on my Y88 for a couple of years. What started as a simple cleaning up of the engine compartment ended up as a more involved project with all the major assemblies removed, cleaned up, painted etc. I am sure that many others have felt the effects of "resto-creep" as one thing builds on another.
Between family, running two businesses and life in general it has been slow but rewarding. A lot of that reward is due, in no small part, to your reference photos and tips posted as part of this thread. Will post some pics of my project and some questions in a separate thread. I am not taking her back to 100% original as I have changed some suspension components (which in hindsight I should have thrown that money somewhere else and just stayed stock). Will get that thread started soon and share some pics. Eager to get others opinions on my work and to help point out any issues they see. Thanks again for the help to BWBob and the forum group as a whole. Cheers, Scott |
