Default Sandblasting Today

Lots of evidence of red primer even on inner fenders and rad cradle including the leaf springs.

Default Rotisserie Was Very Helpful

Had the firebird on my Resto Revolver normally rolls on swivel castors but I built hubs welded to trailer receivers so I can roll on space saver wheels in the sand and still load back in trailer easily. Check out the photo while I was sandblasting the leaf spring I hit red primer then all of a sudden the part number was uncovered painted on leaf spring 482547.

Are both leaf springs the same part number, or are they different from side to side?

I was working with an industrial sandblasting unit the sand comes out so fast a rusty part is cleaned in mere seconds. I could not believe I took off the rust and saw the red primer and the part number on the spring. This was the second spring I blasted on Wednesday and did not notice a part number on the first leaf spring unfortunately.

Front inner fenders? The bolt on front end sheetmetal didn't go through the e-coat tank, so shouldn't have any red oxide.

Or were you referring to some prior restoration work that left red primer?

One of the prior owners wanted to convert the color of the engine bay firewall and inner fenders to gold. It is highly possible he may have used some red primer prior to shooting the gold paint. Red primer should be present on the firewall.

Default 1971 Formula 455 HO Update

Almost ready for paint sure was fun fitting the front sheet metal. Can't find Quezal gold paint in Canada unless it is waterborne ppg product.

Thanks Jon I had a pretty good handle on the project last fall and then I ran into some health issues but have since recovered. I am contemplating who I should get to paint the car do you have any recommendations in Calgary.

Thanks Dave my job for the weekend is to mount the hood to the hinges and check for proper fitment and gaps. If all checks out the car is pretty much ready to go for paint. I will post more photos as I make progress.

I am not a good source for this;
But I will ask a couple locals - one is my brother who has dealt with a local (to calgary - not in the city) shop...

I have painted a few cars but it seems I am getting worse results with age! I called around for paint most companies want to sell me waterborne I don't have any experience with this product. One local company quoted me $691 per gallon just for paint (pro spray) made by Valspar. Axalta formerly Dupont all water based. PPG dealer also wanted to sell me water based.

I had my car painted in Kalispell Montana about 6-7 years ago, the dollar was closer to par and I saved a bunch of money as all the local shops were crazy prices. Even then you could not get oil based paint here. But you could in Montana.

I remember the guys working on it were complaining about how much a gallon of paint had increased.

The paint in Canada is really disappointing these days. I would source it from across the line even if you get someone else to paint it around Calgary. Shops around here won’t touch an old car so I’m still doing my own stuff, just takes me longer these days.
