Just though you guys might be interested in my latest indevor on my '61. Here are a few pics of the mock up phase and the final install of an 8' Ford diff. I fabricated the trailing arms myself (using Autocad) and purchased a poly bushing kit for 64-72 GM A-body. This is a three link set-up with panhard bar. The diff is about 3" narrower than the swing axle. I have a set of 7" steelies that I am using for mock up. I will likely go to an 8" rim and a 245-255 low profile tire. I am moving to the front next. I have a Mustang2 front suspension setup with power rack that I am thinking to install.

that is close to how I did mine in 1964.I hope you have room for a full length coil spring.I did not and the car road like crap. The last 3 I have done have coil overs and rides much better.Tom

I debated on spring configs but I am going to go with a coil over setup also. I am going to use my lower trailing arm mounts for the lower connection and a crossmember between the rails at the top. I designed in enough clearance between the panhard bar and axle for a 3-1/2 coil diameter. At ride height the top of the axle will be 5-1/2" below the frame. I plan on putting a snubber there (similar to the front lower control arm stop). This should give me about 3-4" jounce. That should be plenty of distance and provide sound ride.

Tom, what are you using for spring rate in the back for an "acceptable" quality ride?? If anyone has a good set of coil overs they want to part with let me know... I am still shopping for them.

Below is a current picture of the car (and my kids). I put a 2x6 between the frame and axle to get a good look at ride height thus far. I have not done anything to the front yet but cut the coils.

Here is a shot from the rear. In the pic above I made a set of custom grills. The outboard headlights will be hi/low beam and the inboard headlights are driving lights on the top and blinkers on the bottom. You can see the split in the light on the drivers side view if you look close.

For those of you that really know these model years you may note something fishy about the roof line and rear sail panel on this car.

This car began its restoration as a 4-door sedan...

Im considering changing my 1962 Convt over to a Ford 9 inch and a 4-speed with a 389 in the future. Do you still have pics of the station wagon as to what you did?? Rear suspension wise. & trans crossmember. Could you email them to me? Id sure appreciate it.
Thanks,
Don

Hi Jim

Any brackets left? If so, please shoot me a note of how to pay you for them at <[email protected]>.

I've got a stock 63 LeMans coupe w/ 326.

Chuck
