Yea, yea and give it time and there will be other races posted on You Tube.
Couple of farmboys racing on a back country road is not that conclusive. Be better to see it at a racetrack, and to see what the race weight, gear ratio, R/T time is, etc. Ford will make more power next year, and Chebby will fire back with more then that. Back - n - forth. Kinda like our bickering. Nothin' new under the sun. Ford beat/stayed/lost with it on 3.5 liters vs. 6.2 liters. Just like the Mustang 5.0 beat the Camaro 6.2 In the 80s 5.0s were puttin the hurt on 5.7 TPI Camaros Seems Chebby needs alot more displacement ![]() Not a NASCAR guy. But, NASCAR fans are pretty good at booing the right people recently ![]() Maybe if GM had invested a little less $$ in NASCAR in those years we the people wouldnt have had to give them a big fat welfare check ? ![]() That's absurd : I'm a Ford guy, why would a Ford guy want to ruin a good Pontiac ? ![]() 43 to 32 people on a GM board ? Seems Chebby trucks aint all that -

Just a comment on the Youtube videos- I can find dozens of videos of any truck beating beating any other truck at any number of different competitions. They mean nothing.

Both cars being stock as ordered, I never lost a street race to a mustang in the 80's - even with their serpentine belts & factory headers. The 5.7 was at a disadvantage from the get-go. Only came with the automatic & the numerically lower (higher) gear ratio. The 5.7 had trouble getting out of it's own way & would get spanked by the 5.0 5spds of it's own model, although the literature listed it as having 5hp more. ![]() BTW - you are way off topic!

what i find rather humorous is the poll count shows chev with a fair lead over the others but i mainly hear from ford users here complaining and defending their ford brand
sorta sounds like the superbowl ad ![]()

She's old, loud and ugly but I loooove this truck as much as I love my Pontiacs. 460 with a granny 4 speed and a big Dana rear. I use this truck for parts hauling, scrapping...everything. I've never owned a foriegn car, much less a truck so I cant comment on 'em. Just not my thing. Before this truck, for real work, I had a '79 GMC 3500 with a 454 auto. It's been a long time ago but the only issues I had with it were valve springs(twice) and rear main seals. I liked it as well but there's just something about a Ford truck to me. Mileage is horrible I will admit.....

the 3.5 is Turbocharged. The new 5.0 is multi valve over the 6.2 OLD pushrod technology and I had a 5.7 Trans Am and NEVER got outran by a 5.0 Stang. I know Ill never buy a new GM but Im proud that American power is coming back in the vehicles

Keep in mind: Ford GT40 beat multivalve/multi cam Ferraris back in the 60s with pushrods - and we're talkin a Columbo designed engine. A few V8-60 Ford flatties did beat Offys. Similar argument in the late 80s at a high tech late model muscle event in St Louis : The 5.0 notchback Stangs were doing 14.30s, the Irocs and T/A's I saw were struggling to break into the 14s. Several still had the dealer windowsticker on 'em. The GN's were breaking into the 13s left and right. It was the Mustang guys complaining about the GN's havin' turbos. The bottom line : around '88 the GN was king of the late model muscle. Of course the Ford guys didnt complain "Turbo" when a Turbo T-Bird beat a Monte SS (With those two cars it was anyones race) Quote:

funny... my 6.2 1\2 ton is rated over 10,000 pounds towing capacity with a 9.5" semi floating 14 bolt rear axle. hardly a "light duty truck".

the ONLY reason the ford 5.0 was quicker than the camaro in the eighties was WEIGHT. even the tpi 305 which is a weak breathing engine put out more HP than the ford 5.0. and the 5.0 couldn't hold a candle to the little turbo buicks...

I love my 2005 Duramax, it still runs and drives like a new truck. It has 146K and gets 18 MPG when driven back and forth to work and weekly dump runs. The last road trip (non-towing) it got 21-22 up to Maryland and back. Towing my Firebird it gets 15-16. I'm on my third set of tires and it still has the original brakes. It's been a great truck for my bracket racing needs...
My cell mate at work has a new Ford 4x4 F150, and previously he had the 2wd F150. Both of these trucks have been great for him, driving very nice with great MPG. He never tows anything, so I don't know how that would work out. I do rag on him for not ordering the Ecoboost, because it would have been perfect for his usage requirements... Quote:
One more thing, I'd take any of the big three over a foreign make, every time...

"funny... my 6.2 1\2 ton is rated over 10,000 pounds towing capacity with a 9.5" semi floating 14 bolt rear axle. hardly a "light duty truck"."
Yep, I've seen and worked on several "light duty" trucks with some "heavy duty" features. GM sort of did the same thing back in the early 80's when they used the "C" clip 14 bolt diff's in light duty 3/4 ton trucks. Recently, they slipped the same axle into 1/2 ton trucks to up the payload and towing capacity some. Even so, the vast majority of 1/2 ton trucks aren't rated "over 10,000 pounds towing capacity". Recently I looked at GM's half ton line, and by the time I spec'd out a 1/2 ton truck approaching 3/4 ton towing capacity, I could have bought the 3/4 truck for less money.......Cliff

There would be no need, unless you needed the additional cargo capacity, full floating axle, 5th wheel capabilities, etc?
It's been several months since I priced out new trucks, the high end 1/2 tons were VERY expensive from what I remember. I immediately ruled them out due to price alone. Then, after looking at the whole deal, decided to keep driving my 2007 Duramax/Allison for a while longer.....Cliff

That's a nice truck, ugly is beautiful. 460s are much longer lasting then a '54 Chebby -[/QUOTE] Thanks Brad, good to kow someone else appreciates an ugly truck. I can't own a pretty truck. I feel compelled to work the crap out of one, quickly reducing it to an ugly truck. I dont know why or cannot make any valid excuses, but if a bunch of trucks were lined up and free, I'd walk past the pretty ones and look at the ugly one to see if it ran and worked. God help me, I'd pick it if it did. I dont know why.

I just today picked up an '88 F350 dually with a 460 & C-6 trans, serious old school drivetrain except for being one of the first of the EFI 460's,but yeah it's got what really counts when it's time to do some work. Some of us just prefer those sorta simple/basic trucks. I worked at Ford dealerships back when those '88 trucks were still considered "new" trucks,so I am extremely familiar with them, and I always liked that they are super easy to work on,and all the parts are very basic and durable as he!!. Been looking for a truck like that for a while, down here all you find are diesels, and I'm more of a gas engine guy myself. ![]() Bret P. |

Man, I traded an '87 GTA straight up to get that truck so you know I wanted it. Granted the GTA needed a fuel pump first and interior resto(everything) second but it had a fresh 350 TPI and ran great. It's just nice to have a good mule that you know can take everything you throw at it and you dont have to worry about scratching it. And all I need to service it is hand tools. The 2 foot tall shifter, the crappy red primer, the unmuffled stack exhaust......it's the perfect truck. The neighborhood kids have nicknamed it "the Jeeper Creeper truck" because it sounds like the panel truck in the movie.

I own both but have had the best luck with the Fords. Owned 3 and never did much more than brakes and plugs, one starter in well over 300,000 miles, Currently drive a 3/4 ton super duty for my main truck. Have two one ton dually chevs and the one is on its 3rd motor and second tranny in 150,000 miles. The other has 100,000 with the orginal m/t, both have rusted worse than any of the Fords. Most all the contractors around here drive supers and they work them, cement contractor up the road leaves with load of block on the bed pulling a trailer with skidloader and gear everyday. Normal day for him is 120 miles pulling day in day out. He had a super and traded for a chev, he's back to a super. I like the duramax but when it comes to a working truck GM doesn't seem to have nearly as many on the road, compared to the f350 f450 etc.

Correct me if I am wrong but last I checked I could only find locking diffs on Fords. I also feel the build quality of Ford is a bit better than GM. With that being said I like the look of the GM trucks better.
