I agree, but if you painted a number on the window and raced on a prep'd track my money would be on George or a guy like Richie Hoffman

With your present build aren't you thinking 7's?
Agreed, Snyder's car is baddd.

My build is not going to be a 7 second ride anytime soon, just shooting for 9's. Never been faster than 12.5x, need to get some experience before going for broke. Honestly don't know what this car is going to weigh, expect somewhere around 2800-3000? Iron 535 with standard pushrod location Eheads. Once I get a feel for the car and some speed, start turning up the wick - maybe spray, maybe boost, maybe step up to big boy heads.

I'll say this, it's encouraging to hear that going 7's isn't all that difficult! Not a big deal apparently, shows I got a lot to learn yet.

Going 7's is a big deal to me, but with a good plan it can be done. I have been asking a lot of questions, for a lot of years and there is a lot to learn or things will be way more expensive.

I will bet a good grudge racers makes more money per year than a good bracket racer. What's the highest pay out of a bracket race. My friend was in Fayettville this weekend for a 10000.00 grudge race, he won.
Unless you are in a big class ( which the car cost's huge money) the pay out is small. Odds are not with you going round after round. you have a 50 50 on a grudge race.
Don't get me wrong I like bracket racing, a grudge race that you have money on really gets your heart pounding.
Yes Richie is bad ass and cam build a hell of a motor!!!!

How many/who achieved it WITHOUT a power adder?

Showing my age but I seem to recollect that Pat Donavan (mind you with a "One Off Engine") ran in the 7s at one point in his career Naturally Aspirated. It was not a rail either.
I think until Marty came out with his Turbo deal Mr Donavan was the Top Dog Guy, not counting someone like Beswick and Beswick was Chebby Powered.

I won't take that bet. But would be willing to bet the great majority of bracket racers and grudge racers are upside down when comparing the amount of money spent on their cars to their winnings.

I don't know the highest pay outs on a bracket race. I believe Jeff Verdi won North of $200,000 two years in a row at a single race. That's considerably more payout than I've ever seen at a no-prep or grudge race. It would also be a heck of a lot cheaper to build and maintain Jeff's car than a high end grudge/no-prep car capable of winning that kind of money. Another thing to take into account is money paid out by manufacturers to a winning car with their sticker on it. I'm sure they won't make a pay out to the winner of a race that's ran in an industrial park .

Unless you're doing this at a pro level your not going to be able to quit your day/night job.

I also disagree you have a 50/50 chance on a grudge race. More times than not a bet won't be placed unless a racer feels he has the better odds of winning.

Grudge racing is the same as the 'street outlaw' type of racing?

Yes, but usually hours are spent bickering and setting up the race. Most times there is not a "list" involved.

I have known Jeff for over 25 years. He has won sevreal track championships over the years. I believe he started last year by winning a practice tree event purse of 10k ish. I do not think he will ever build a 7 second door car but after last year's work he might could afford to.

The BEST Racers/Drivers out there are either Bracket Racers or were Bracket Racers. Half the Pro Drag Racers out there came from Bracket Racing! Nothing more of a adrenaline rush then going 7-10 rounds and winning the race. Bracket racing has BIG bucks in it now........$5,000, $10,000......$25,000 every week, they're out there.....just pick ur poison!

The tech is there to run a seven several different ways: NA, NO2, turbo, supercharged, but I haven't heard anyone who's actually done it say "it isn't all that difficult". It takes money and hard work using available technology. I just followed a formula to do it, but it was never easy: big learning curve and lots of surprises along the way.

It'll take 1,100-1,200 HP to run 7's in a door can at 3,200 lbs. in 80 degree weather.

One truth all race cars no matter how much you win cost more to build keep up on. I look at what my street car costs, can't imagine an all out race car.
