Just a FYI, Prescott and PV use salt ( you can see the white powder all over 69 and also Glassford Hill Rd.. Prescott also uses crushed red cinder with their salt.

No plan here: been driving my '65 GTO continuously since 1982, and my '67 GTO since 1983. Both cars have been on the road and driven since then, when I bought them. Never been 'laid up' for more than a month or so (engine rebuild/paint jobs) Neither has been restored, just maintained and repaired as needed. My water pump casting numbers don't match, and my alternators have been replaced, but I've made almost 40 years of memories in these cars instead of having them in pieces for a frame off. The '65 needs to be driven more, but needs race gas, so the '67 gets the nod 95% of the time. I use it for extended road trips, even cross-country. It's a stocker/cruiser/low HP car that gets great gas mileage and cruises at 80 mph plus, so I can use it like a modern car.

I wasn't aware of the weekly get togethers. Is that year round? I'll shoot you a PM.

I envision a huge glut of cars and parts becoming available as the boomers age. Cars and parts hoarded for many years will become available. Problem is, there will not be near as many who will want them or care....all those widowed granny’s be selling grandpas “junk” for pennies on the dollar...

Add In the new era of electric cars and this hobby may die sooner than later....

Why I’m getting some drive time now! I’m going to burn fuel and tires till I can’t anymore!
Great article about the coming glut of classic cars.

The fact is baby boomer kids by and large don't care about their dads cars and will auction or sell them. This massive number of sales will depress prices like we've never seen before. Double edge sword. Our hobby will die, but all the cars we've always wanted will be much easier to attain. Once I get my building up to store them all that is.

Daily here as well. I'm fortunate enough to have several to choose from, but my 71 GTO hardtop is the primary daily driver. It lives in the home garage, so it's first out of the blocks every day.

The 67's both get driven weekly as well, and they take over daily duties should the 71 be down for maintenance/upgrades.

I understand how those of you living in the poor weather are reluctant to drive them, mainly for preservation purposes. I used to live in that weather too. Thankfully, since moving to Phoenix 16 years ago, I no longer have to pick my days. Every day is a good day to drive here. No snow, but rain or shine.

I'll let you all know once I get it back on the road. My Insurance limits me to 2K miles per year so it won't be a whole lot of miles.

Our insurance is through Costco / Ameriprise. For five cars it's $2429 per year. Each car has a $100 comprehensive deductible, $250 collision. Based in Los Angeles, 90606 zip code. Only my wife & I are on the policy, and typically we drive each car less than 3000 miles per year, although my wife drives the 99 C5 every day for work, so 7500 miles per year on that one.

1999 FORD EXPLORER
2006 CHRY 300C
1999 CHEV CORVETTE
2004 CHEV CORVETTE
1998 PONT FIREBIRD FORMULA/TRANS AM

Because of my policy with them I was able to get a Modern Gen classic car policy on the 69 Bird for about $120 per year which has a stated/appraised value of $19k, no deductible. Since I've done so many upgrades to it, I'll need to raise that limit up to $35k. Not sure what my mileage cap is, but I think it's 3000 miles per year like on the Ameriprise policy.

They've been great to work with whenever someone has dropped a brick in the road, or done other stupid stuff to our cars while parked. For reference I'm 61, ans she's 57, and we haven't had an accident or speeding ticket in years, so I'm sure we get discounts for having six cars.

I work from home, so the daily driver is the Ford Explorer to go to USPS and Fedex. Last year I put 1600 miles on the truck in one year.

Yeah, I know....too many cars, not enough driving time!

Most of the classic car policies I know of do not let you commute to work in your classic. For me, that would be the main thing that would get me behind the wheel of my GTO more often.

I have collector insurance thru Grundy on my 67's, but they aren't "allowed" to be daily driven per the policy. There is no annual mileage limit as others have mentioned, but they rarely get 5,000 miles per year each anyway. I do use them on occasion when my 71 is down for repairs, or perhaps when I need to haul something with the wagon, but those times are temporary in nature.

The 71 lives on our Farmer's policy with the rest of the family driver cars. No limitation on usage that way. Granted, I cannot get an "agreed value" policy for it as a result, but that's the risk you run.

Incidentally, I have to tune it to pass emissions every year as well since I live (and register) in metro Phoenix. Everything 1967 and newer has to pass emissions here if it's not on a collector policy. Not a big deal as the car is almost bone stock, so with a good tune, it flies thru emissions.

These are the practicalities of running 'legally,' and daily for me. Still, it's 100% worth it to be able to hop in the car any time and any day and drive when and where I want.

And I do.
